Warnock: I'm not finished! THE double swoop which brought Ade Akinbiyi and Bruce Dyer to Bramall Lane is unlikely to mark the end of Sheffield United's dealings during the transfer window, according to manager Neil Warnock. United yesterday took their spending for January to £1.75 million when Akinbiyi completed his much-anticipated move from Burnley for a new club record before capturing Stoke City's former Barnsley striker Dyer on a free. Speaking at a press conference to unveil the latest additions to his squad, Warnock confirmed that one, possibly two, new faces could still arrive before next week's deadline for signings. "I've never heard a manager yet say that he has just found the final piece of the jigsaw," he said. "And I'm definitely not going to say that now. "Hopefully I'll be able to bring somebody else in and that's something we're working on at the moment. "Everyone knows that I'd like to strengthen and centre-half is one position I'm looking at. "I don't want to end up in a situation like we did at Leicester recently when Chris Morgan and Craig Short were missing and we ended up being bullied. "Experience is a must, you can never have too many leaders, that's the type of person I'm looking for. "But I've also not used the loan market too much and, if I could, then there might be a chance of bringing someone else in until the end of the season." Having climbed to second in the Championship table, United's decision to make Akinbiyi the most expensive player in their history underlines their determination not to surrender the 12-point advantage they enjoy over third-placed Leeds. Warnock is understood to have earmarked Chris Lucketti for the vacancy at the heart of his defence but play-off-chasing Preston's position in the table means his inquiry was not warmly received. The acquisitions of Dyer and Akinbiyi come less than three weeks after Garry Flitcroft and Brian Deane also pledged their allegiance to the United cause. 27 January 2006 « Previous PageNext »Page 1 of 1
Jigsaw and Experience is a must but my particular favourite: "I don't want to end up in a situation like we did at Leicester recently when Chris Morgan and Craig Short were missing and we ended up being bullied. " will the bullies be out tonight I wonder?
