I went to the Derby game yesterday and found myself (and my 2 sons) with 3 or 4 hours to kill (having had to get to the ticket office before 12 midday - another post!).

So I thought I'd show my boys my old school - Holgate. But lo and behold - it has been knocked to the ground!!

    Can't believe it????

Yes the meteorite that struck it and raised it to the ground was a shock to all of us!

Don't know, but my old un ( kirk balk) was in the last few years. Holgates demise was probably just after our football team was there ;)

Watch for the Like from Mr C ;)

Remember playing Kirk Balk at footy - big rivals in the 1970's !

My brother taught at Kirk Balk too.

    Cheers, Jedstar.

Was a bit of a shock being there and the building was completely gone, tbh.

Yeah there's barely any old schools left to be honest, I went to White Cross, that went about 12 years ago.

Sad but true, no longer will we be able to say "fortiter occupa portam", unless we mean the gates to the new car park on the site.

There used to be an oak memorial board at the back of the main hall at Holgate inscribed in gold with the names of all 'Old boys' killed in WW1 & WW2 I wonder if it was saved and moved or just bulldozed with the rest of the stuff. Likely the latter but would like to know where it went if the former.
