Do you know anything about Oslo; what to do, cool places to go, stuff the guide books don't tell you etc? My daughters just booked a city break there and I want to show her how clever her dad is by knowing all about Oslo (blagger)
I wen to Oslo In 1980 on a business trip. The park in the city centre is interesting for its nude statues, otherwise the only thing I remember was the price of beer in the bars - extortionate. Oh and the the fact that because the trip was early July, it never went properly dark. Quite a shock when you come out of a club at 1 in the morning and its lighter than when you went in!
don´t know much about oslo. i live closer to trondheim. but here is some links http://www.vigeland.museum.no/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oslo http://www.visitoslo.com/en/ Pubs http://www.oslopubs.com/ http://www.scotsman.no/ http://www.dubliner.no/ Concerts http://www.blaaoslo.no/ Cricket (here they play cricketmatches) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekebergsletta Football Oslo have 2 teams in the norwegian Tippeliga. Both are ****. FC Lyn and Vaalerenga. They play their matches at Ullevaal. Huk: one of the beaches in Oslo both textile and nudebeach. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/85/Huk,_Oslo_-_bay_with_beach.jpg Shopping The shopping street in Oslo is Karl Johan Street. There is a shopping centre near by called Oslo City http://www.oslocity.no/ Transport http://www.trafikanten.no/ (bus and train info) http://www.nsb.no (train) http://www.sporveien.no/180/ (bus and tram) Nor-Way (bus)
when's she going?
if it's summer, Vigeland Park (the one with the naked statues) is a nice place to visit, the royal palace in the centre, the shopping is quite nice and there's a few H&M type shops for us girlies with quite nice things in (even though a lot of it is still 80s fashion )
The harbour is quite nice too for a wander and an ice-cream on a sunny day. The new opera house is open now too, though they were still building it when I went. I used to just like having a wander around the streets when I got the chance.
if it's winter - take loads of jumpers and some non-slip shoes!!
don't expect a big pub/club scene -from what I saw, it was more subdued, more emphasis on eating and drinking rather than just boozing, although there are some quite funky pubs (and some more less funky )
but regardless, at anytime of year, take loads of money 'cos it's v expensive... hope she has a good time, I used to enjoy going there and would like to go back one day.

I spent a weekend there recently The New Opera House is worth a visit - interesting building The Brygga (harbour) area has all been done up and is quite nice There is a Castle by the harbour as well which is well a castle You can go up to the Ski Jump and get a good view of the city Boat trips round the Fiord are always fun There are some good museums a small boat trip from the brygga Also you can get round tickets for the ferries cheaply and make short visits to the islands If you are lucky there may be a big cruise ship in the Harbour - also the Soren Larsen has its home there (ship that starred in the Onedin line - you might remember it but doubt your daughter will Food and drink is phenominally expensive
