I'm not bothered about what's been said or what hasn't been said or what's been done or what hasn't been done. The fact of the matter is this. The way in which Barnsley FC have gone about this entire arrangement is comparable to a circus. Brian Howard is a great Championship player. He scores goals, he creates goals. We, at the moment - cannot do either of those things. £200,000 + £300,000 = £500,000 £500,000? For a player that scored 14 goals and got God knows how many assists last season - that is down right pathetic. What kind of business is that? Fair enough, if Brian wanted to leave - let him leave, but jesus christ, don't let him go to one of our closest rivals and certainly not for pocket change. What's £500,000 in football today? Eh, what the hell is it!?! Are we going to replace Howard? If so, when? And who with? Who are we going to bring in, that is capable of scoring 14 goals from midfield in the Championship, for £500,000?! It's downright laughable... I know they aren't comparable - but Kayode Odejayi was £200,000 wasn't he? And that fella has scored, what, 4 goals in 50+ games from a STRIKING position? Then you look at Howard, who not only scores, but creates goals, from MIDFIELD and you sell him for the same price? Albeit with an extra 300k later, that will, what, put him in the same bracket as Mostto - who never plays!!! It's ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous. At the beginning of the season, Barnsley FC promised us box office signings (to go with the pretty good squad that we already have). - Darren Moore (while being good) is NOT box office - Hugo Colace (whilst being good) is NOT box office - Iain Hume (whilst being good) is NOT box office - Mounir El Haimour is NOT BOX OFFICE!!! Coupled with the fact that we have let our most potent goal threat go for peanuts, is disgraceful. Where are these box office signings? Or were we talking about the Oakwell box office?!? I think it's a shoddy piece of business, and an all round circus act by Barnsley FC. The squad we have at the moment is a mid table Championship squad. That's a given. However, currently we are a bottom of the table squad - and unless we start scoring goals, that isn't going to change. Lose on Saturday to Doncaster Rovers, and we really, really are in the mire. Absolutely pathetic.
Can't fault much of that Only possible criticisms would be 1) Howard is a human being and therefore he has his own will, so what happens is not just controlled by what BFC want 2) You spelt "farcical" wrongly
One last thing... Iain Hume cost us £1.2 million I personally felt that was far too high - £600,000/£700,000 was my estimate. Iain Hume got 11 goals last season. Brian Howard got 14 goals last season. (I don't care how many were penalities - a goal is a goal!) Hmmm - why did we sell someone who got us 14 goal from midfield and bring in someone who got 11 goals for £700,000 more? Anyways, let's get behind them tomorrow. We need 3 points desperately, nothing else will do. A draw will be a bad result and a defeat will be a disaster.
Whilst I'm not going to disagree with what you've said.. I Think I should point out that "Box Office signings" was last season. This seasons buzz words are "Substantial funds"
Peanuts, to sum it up Totally agree with your sentiments. Especially when BFC had put his valuation at 10 million a short while ago. I still believe that he was sacrificed for the survival of the Manager.
