Please could I ask you to spend a few minutes looking at the Post Pals site. Most of the kids didn't get much post in June. The Summer holidays are upon us and from personal experience I know how hard it is when everyone is out in the sun having fun and you're not well enough to join in. Lots of people send postcards back to family and friends from their holiday, so I was wondering/hoping that you might pick up an extra card for a pal. So if your going away, please write down an address and take it with you.

Some of the children have been in hospital for months and really do need cheering up, these ones especially:

Alice P - is in Alder Hey for more treatment, her hospital address will be on her page soon (she is on the Teenage Oncology Ward).

Daisy N - is in Great Ormond Street, this is now her 10th month in hospital although they are hoping to be allowed home on the 22nd July.

Daniel A - is spending a lot of time in hospital due to intensive chemo.

Kian B - is going in for his transplant on the 13th July .

Madison P - is very ill in hospital, plus her cancer has spread and there is nothing more they can do.

Megan H - is recovering from spinal surgery.

If you could cheer them up by just sending a card, letter or e.mail then it would be greatly appreciated. Also some of them have brothers and sisters who also feel left out as their parents have to spend so much time away from them, so a little note would give them a boost too.

    Thank You

    Laura

    Off to bed now.

I'll have a go at that.

By the way Laura. It asks on your page if you suffer from any developmental delay and you've answered no. Surely Kev qualifies as some kind of set-back.</p>

    Lol,

another e.mail on way to Post Pals Site Admin to ask them to update her page. (Her latest update was sent on Saturday)
They've been getting spammed a lot recently so some of the site isn't as up to date as it should be.

    Follow up

I know some of you have responded to this appeal from Laura, but if any of you are in any doubt just how much a letter from a stranger means to a sick child then please read the following post written by a mum about her son. It was posted on the Post Pals Facebook page.

This is a blog post from Alan's Mum (reposted with her permission), Alan is 6 and has Cystic Fibrosis

Alan has been much the same from my last post still feeling really down and sad about 'His Life'
this is really tearing me apart seeing my beautiful boy like this, wanting to be in his words normal. We have really tried to make Alan's life exciting and full of new and wonderful things and have never ever treated him differently, although I'm a little over protective but what ever has brought this on, its not nice. We also got a call yesterday to say Alan had an infection which requires a two week course of antibiotics which i must say couldn't have came at a worse time, another med to fit in to all the other he is not happy about taking, Just as we got the call a parcel from Kim came and when he opened it he really cheered up and i did explain he is special and not just us care about him that other people do too and that made him feel good.He sat for a while and then asked me, does Callum get parcels and cards from people, i said not from postpals only extra special people do and you are one of them, My husband said to me that was a good thing to say it seemed to make his day so here's hoping we can beat the blues he has at the moment.

It is very difficult to stay positive all the time as Laura knows only too well. Also a a parent of an ill child you do try not to let them feel left out but the older they get the more they notice that they aren't able to do as much as friends or siblings, it is your job to try and help them overcome the feelings of isolation, frustration and sheer hatred of "being different (ill)" all the time.
