We have had good enough players to win the world cup EVERY time since 1966
    But we don't
We now have a situation when we can gauge our English players with the best in the world because many of the best players in the world play in our Premeirship
So we put a team of players together and think this team cannot be beaten
We have the best pairing of centre halves
We have the best pairing of midfielders
And to top it off we have Wayne Rooney who would get in ANY national team and is one of the best players in the world
    And what happens........we fail to play............WHY ???
Look at the USA and Australia none of their players would get in the England team but both these countries can be very proud of their teams
Only conclusion I can come to is that Football is so big in this country that the players are actually struck down by fear
For example, has anybody seen Lampard and Gerrard play so badly for their own clubs

england are out of the world cup so lets move on and stop talking about it. barnsley is what we should be talking about now. not our overated national team.

BBC News 24 yesterday, Boris Becker was on (ok I don't know why they were discussing football with him either) and he was saying that Germany don't even practice penalties….the difference though is they see it as a positive to get to penalties, they have confidence in their ability and that they've got a great chance to win….England however, because of their record, are fearful once it gets to penalties. Look at the reaction of the players wher Portgal scored their first penalty…..the reaction of our players you'd think they'd conceeded a last minute equaliser.

Just a thought but would we have played as badly if Gus Hiddink had been our manager? I somehow doubt it.

    USA?

Very proud of their team? Did you watch the game against Czech republic?

They came into this tournament having qualified above Mexico and ranked as one of the best teams in the world and left with one point from an average group. They were nothing short of pathetic in their opening game and were lucky not to get more of a beating. And then they lost to Ghana when a win would have taken them through.

If they're proud of that performance then they must understand the sport even less than I thought.

    RE: USA?

Watching some ESPN programming I don't think they were proud of them.....comments that they could only score 1 goal themselves (one against Italy being an own goal) and calls for Arena to be sacked.

    RE: USA?

Was there a backlash regarding Freddy Adu's exclusion from the squad?

Or is he actually useless in the real (non FM2006) world?

I think, no, I know you have missed the point again.........Psycologically

    I'm not talking about skill
England have cart loads of skill, the USA haven't got a bucket full
I'm talking about the effort and the belief of trying to win
Another big contender here is Germany
How many of the German team would get in the English team.....one...Ballack
But on club form would he unseat Lampard or Gerrard - probably not
Anyway back to USA and Australia....they fought like lions.
They seem to have a self belief that they will win what ever the odds.
The English team don't seem to have any of that beleif
El Tel said summert on ITV on Saturday......The English team play as though they are wearing shackles.
So psycologically there's summert wrong (clown)

We'll see next season when he unseats Lampard then!

Oh and Germany's 2nd keeper would walk into the England side! (If he qualified to play for us that is!)

As to "missing the point" - my response to you was agreeing with you....my comments on the US were in response to someone else.

I think you understand Americans less than I thought

I certainly am not proud of the result...not by a long shot. However, I am proud of the men who went and play as God knows I couldn't do that. I admire them for their effor and tenacity.

If you can't understand that, well then that's your problem not mine

I'm sorry but it was a dreadful performance

I was supporting them wholeheartedly. If you look through the history on this site you'll see that, along with me tipping them to beat the Czechs. But their performance and effort level in that game in particular was way below their best. They underachieved and are a much better team than they showed in this performance. For that reason I don't think they can be proud of their performance.

I didn't mean to have a dig at anyone personally and I'm sorry if I offended you but I stick with my appraisal of their performance. How Young Nudger can say "they fought like lions" against the Czechs I really don't know. I'll be hoping they do better next time around.

    I do have to admit

they blew donkeys all the way around. Well, there's always next time for us to suck less.... LOL

Perhaps if the uniforms were tight like in the NFL there'd be more interest over here...ppuurrrrrrrrrrr or better yet in the nude....there's more than one I'd pay to see play like that. Perverted owd bint that I am. TEE HEE HEE

oh, and no offense taken love.
