I have just had a Phone call the wife answered it she could not make out the number so we used 1471 the number is 01789 760500 a Rotherham Number i rang it back on got the dead phon call sign now the strange thing is it has happened before called from that number and noe reply any one from Rotherham area have any idea
the code for rotherham is 01709 not 01789. I'm not sure if that is just a typing mistake or not but i think it's worth asking, how did you ring the number back? did you write down (or remember) the number and then dial it? Or did you press 1471 and then press 3?
yes i did just that but it is a mystery that the same thing has happened before over ayear ago i rang NTL both occasions and they cant help
You've got the wrong town matey if you've typed the number correctly, 01789 is Stratford on Avon, not Rotherham (chinny)
RE: You've got the wrong town matey yes thanks but i made amess of it it is 01709 i did it wrong as usual thanks for reply
Don't bother ringing back Bob. If it's the same company that keeps ringing us using a Rotherham 01709 number and the rest sounds familiar then it is usually someone from T Mobile trying to give you a "good deal" on a new mobile package. Usually someone with a heavy accent who asks for you as, in our case Mr Kevin or Mrs Crystal so you would be Mr Bob (Robert). They seem to be very persistant and used to phone on a daily basis.
Also they ring, you answer the phone to be told by an automated voice "please hold the line we have a call for you" - a way of getting round the cold calling rules, cue phone put down at our end.
crystal if that happens again then report them, there are rules that say that if they phone using the automated system (as they most likely are doing) then if you don't answer they aren't allowed to call back for a certain period of time. Or it's something like that anyway.
Bob are you registered with the Telephone Preference Service? It's like opting out of junk mail but for phone calls - see link

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

RE: Don't bother ringing back Bob. thanks Crystal ive checked Rotherham phone numbers cant find a 760 number and it is such a long time it rang before we got no voice at all you could be right all the best for2007
Well when I say put the phone down sometimes we do and sometimes we put them on hold listening to the dogs "sing" Have to look into reporting them, thanks. We did register with TPS but still get a few calls coming through.
RE: Well lol we havent got any dogs but I suppose I could always turn bbc parlament on the tv and let them listen to that for half an hour.
Actually got a "new" toy for Christmas, Chris brought a whistle home from Chester and that now has pride of place at the side of the phone!
did you block your number when you rang them back? the company may have chosen to block anonymous callers, you would have got the tone you described
