the code for rotherham is 01709 not 01789. I'm not sure if that is just a typing mistake or not but i think it's worth asking, how did you ring the number back? did you write down (or remember) the number and then dial it? Or did you press 1471 and then press 3?

You've got the wrong town matey

if you've typed the number correctly, 01789 is Stratford on Avon, not Rotherham (chinny)

    Don't bother ringing back Bob.

If it's the same company that keeps ringing us using a Rotherham 01709 number and the rest sounds familiar then it is usually someone from T Mobile trying to give you a "good deal" on a new mobile package. Usually someone with a heavy accent who asks for you as, in our case Mr Kevin or Mrs Crystal so you would be Mr Bob (Robert).

They seem to be very persistant and used to phone on a daily basis.

    Also

they ring, you answer the phone to be told by an automated voice
"please hold the line we have a call for you" - a way of getting round the cold calling rules, cue phone put down at our end.

    crystal

if that happens again then report them, there are rules that say that if they phone using the automated system (as they most likely are doing) then if you don't answer they aren't allowed to call back for a certain period of time. Or it's something like that anyway.

Bob are you registered with the Telephone Preference Service?

It's like opting out of junk mail but for phone calls - see link</p>

did you block your number when you rang them back? the company may have chosen to block anonymous callers, you would have got the tone you described
