<p class="ss-text-bold">Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his intention to step down as Manchester United manager within the next three years. </p> </p> </p> Ferguson continued his outstanding record at Old Trafford by securing a memorable Premier League and UEFA Champions League double in the 2007/08 campaign. </p> </p> The Scot had previously announced plans to retire at the end of the 2001/02 season; however he made a dramatic U-turn in February 2002, agreeing to stay on at the club. </p> </p> But Ferguson, 66, has now revealed his intention to quit his managerial role at United before he turns 70-years-old. </p> </p> </p><h4>Guarantee</h4> </p> </p> "I won't be managing here when I'm 70. No, never. I can assure you of that," Ferguson said. </p> </p> "I won't be managing here any more than three years at the very, very, very most - no question. </p> </p> "There is a time when you have to think about time for yourself. You know, my wife is getting older and I have to think about that. </p> </p> "I think she deserves a bit of my time. The older you get, the more guilty you feel about it. What I would like to do in life is travel to places I have never been to. </p> </p> </p><h5>Sacked</h5> </p> </p> "I would love to go to the States and spend about three or four months there. I will still be involved with United in some shape or form. I hope so because I have a good relationship. </p> </p> "There is no chance of me ever being sacked. I think it will be my decision and [chief executive] David Gill is happy with that."</p>
sad loss for Man U a good loss for football how can we beat cheaters and ref crowders when hes in the refs ear every 30 seconds? cue Abuse
Two more than Arsene Wenger and Jose have achieved Whilst managing an English club. Remember, he may have been there for 22 years but they haven't been the biggest club in the World for that long. Fergie made Manchest United the biggest club in the World, and 22 years in the same job at any level is very impressive. Poor record? Yeah, course he has (chinny)
RE: Poor record.........22 years at the biggest club in the world........and only 2 european cups !! The English league managers have only had the spending power to compete with the Italians and Spanish following the past 3 TV contracts.</p>
For 22 years this guy has had the pick of the crop in Britain And he's done nothing when you compare him to managers like Clough and Paisley As for Wenger and Moreno..........they haven't been in English football for 22 years.........now have they (dunno)
29 trophies - shocking record, absolutely shocking And he did it by making his first eleven littered with foreign players, never brought through the likes of Giggs, Sharpe, Beckham, Scholes, the Neville brothers, Wes Brown, Nicky Butt...................... Yes Nudger, he's been dreadful
Being succesful in Europe is the litmus test A football club that has fans in every town in England, thats an estimated 2 million fans and a club that has had millions upon million of pounds at their disposal should be doing more than winning the European cup twice in 22 years. Fergie has survived because he has won trophys in the domestic league. Would a manager at Real Madrid or Juventus have lasted 22 years on this record ??? And Man U are bigger than either of these clubs He openly admits that they have failed in Europe........or in his words "we should have won more European cups than what we have done"
RE: Poor record.........22 years at the biggest club in the world........and only 2 european cups !! English clubs were banned from the European Cup for 6 years (86-91)
Yet since the Man Utd "golden generation" United have never brought through the same calibre of young players since, although admittedly Scholes, Giggs, Nevilles, Becks etc would take some beating. They've never managed to produce a good homegrown English striker either. That aside whatever you think of him Fergie has been an outstanding manager and in this day and age of chopping and changing managers it'll be years and years and years before someone does the same as what he's done, if ever.
