What did he do wrong last night? The whole feel of the game changed when he came on. His first touch is very good, he has a soft touch so the ball does stay close, if you remember Bruce Dyer he had a first touch like a tennis ball bouncing off a wall. Conlon has a fair bit of skill and vision and can pass the ball to feet when required. ALSO, and I do keep saying this but nobody ever f.uckin listens, or rather doesn't want to listen, Conlon was more or less player of the season last year up to the point where he got injured. He was top scorer at the time with about 7 goals. Then along came Chopra and the little darling wooed you all into thinking that Conlon was crap. How or why I don't know, cos he wasn't even playing. Explain that one to me please ! Now he is fit and ready to play but already the knives are out. Don't forget that Nardiello has promised us 30 goals this season as a thank you for having faith in him. Well, let's wait and see. (I hope he does it, mind) Give Baz the chance he deserves. He has done nothing wrong and I feel that given the opportunity he will show what a capable player he is. Rant over.
I agree with you. I'm pretty sure Conlon was getting a hell a lot of praise before he got injured. I'm not sure what happened after that to make people dislike him.
The arrival of Chopra... saved us last season. Without himand with Conlon, we would have gone down. It's nowt to do with him getting injured. I liked him at first but the more I saw him the less I rated him I don't rate him but do like him, if that makes sense
Somehow Conlon became the whipping boy. He played only the start of the season which then gave Chops the major part remaining to play. We were blinded by Chops, I don't have a problem with that, but do not lose sight of the fact that for qite a long time into the season Conlon was still top scorer. It would be interesting to know from you statisticians out there how many goals Baz did score up to his injury and how long after it took whoever to pass his total. We forgot about Baz in the glow of Chops and I think a lot of the problems are caused by the fact that Chops did not come back. A bit like Shipperley if you like. A void was created and we/you cannot accept the alternatives, or we/you are not prepared to give the alternatives a chance.
Never been prolific even at a Division lower. his first touch is ok, but he's so slow to spot a team mate, that invariably he's closed down or has to pass back and we lose momentum. and he's a slow as they come over the first 5 yards, so is huffing and puffing when Shukes is sending his missiles over to the back post. Hayes is a much better all round player. Nardiello has a much better strike rate. Conlon is a squad player at best, to be used sparingly at that.
Totally agree...and the rump of Londontykes feel same! Moose disagrees, mind. He was our best player by a country mile till injury last season. I can accept he's not good enough to get us promotion, but he's good enough to be an alternative to Hayes or Nads as a sub in scrappy games like last nite. Tho not as part of a 3 man forward line with FA supply from out wide cos your "supply" (I use the term loosely) can no longer stay out wide right cos we now only have 3 men in midfield and he has to tuck in a bit. Hoofing the ball 30 yards down the middle, what's Conlon expected to do, flick in on 25 yards into top corner? He brings it down, lays out wide and hopes cross will come in for him. It doesn't (and on the rare occasion it did last season, he looked stunned, cos he has to wait entire games for a cross). Oh for the days of Neil Thompson and Nicky Eaden in tandem. Or simply Danny Wilson managing us (remember the use of a Mr P. Wilkinson???)
when Conlon got injured we were midtable nonentities... and by end of season we were...midtable nonentities! How bad we'd have been without Chops doesn't bear thinking about.
He was one of better players for the first part of last season, but that isnt saying much. I think he is ok at what he does. But is by no means a big physical target man that some people make out. I think we play worse with him in the team, he drops too deep, and doesnt have the pace to attack defenders with the ball. Even Ritchie said he wanted to play with two nippy strikers, and said that conlon could go. While he is here though, he will always be on the bench for the extra height option.
admittedly, Chops only played up front after BBBs injury but perhaps if the clueless Hart had not gone with 4-5-1 initially - and played BBB and Chops together up front - we might have done better.
RE: Never been prolific Should shukes be sending his missiles over to the back post before a player like baz with great ability in the air gets in the box? and, Conlans not that f***ing slow!!!
Maybe Shuker doesnt look up before he crosses or maybe Conlon is too slow to get there in time. Probably both, actually.
