    My mate just rang me and asked who was the first black reds player.I said I thought it was Steve McKone.Does any one know if this is correct and has any details about his career.

    I think you're right, mate

    But I'm sure he only made one appearance against Southport (possibly) in the Football League Cup, round about 1961. He was South African.

    I remember him when I was a youngster he was in lodgings up Dodworth Road and I believe he went to Benfica from Barnsley.
