Read the thread a few days ago about first games. Mine will be 50 years ago in a couple of weeks 18th January 1975 we won 1-0 against Shrewsbury. Today was my grandson’s first game and the emotion I felt I can’t put into words. He’s non verbal autistic and we weren’t sure how it would go. My son in law spoke to the box office staff and they were great advising him best place to sit. It was a wonderful day and one I will cherish. Sometimes we forget the magic that supporting our team can give us today I felt that magic.

    I just love this!
Introducing your grandson to going to see The Reds should be something that makes you and your family proud - it’s the only way the club can survive and move forward.
I know there are lots of reasons why people can’t attend on a regular basis but bums on seats is the club’s lifeblood.
I’m so pleased your grandson got to see an archetypal Battling Barnsley performance.

Im a season ticket holder so I’ve been dreaming of this day for a few years. Not sure how much he took in but he seemed to enjoy his day.

Nice one. There are 3 generations of us and extended family. (13 at mo all season ticket holders) The game and social side (pub afore the game) bring us together on that regular basis and we live not far from one another. All within a 20 mile radius of the ground. Not be long afore a 4th generation will be joining us,
Mi bro the eldest started going in 1955.

Rodger Wylde. He knew where the onion bag was, and how to wave to the crowd.

My 40th anniversary is coming up late this year - Barnsley 2-1 Charlton, 14th December 1985.

13 August 1994 v Derby County. 2-1 Andy (get) Rammell (on) bagging a brace.

Wasn’t a little nipper - I was 11, had no connection to Barnsley as a town, born and bred in Donny, and came as the man who would go on to be my step father for a few years was a Barnsley fan from Wakefield. (Barnsley fc being the single positive I could take from him but that’s a different story).

At that time I ‘supported’ Liverpool because my dad did. I’d been to Anfield a couple of times, went to Wembley for the 1992 charity shield.

Through the mid nineties I was coming to more and more Barnsley games, developing a passion but didn’t admit I was a Barnsley ‘fan’ at school until I was maybe 14 - when Ashley Ward scored the winner at Anfield in the premier league and I was dancing around the house, the penny dropped that I wasn’t a Liverpool fan. My dad was very ill by that point, died a few years later, so he was never affected by my ‘change’ in loyalties.

Got my first season ticket at 18 when I could afford my own. Relegation season under Spackman and Parkin, then through all the administration etc. Got my name in a brick somewhere, had my name on a seat in the east lower (might still be there, was for years, but I assume they’ve moved them now).

Had a period when I wasn’t a st holder when I first got with my Mrs and we had my eldest, was a bit skint in those days.

Been a st holder again with him, as well as my youngest daughter now, for several years.

My eldest has never been anything other than a Barnsley fan and I’ve never forced the issue. Over and above bringing him to matches. His first game was where we got gubbed at home to MK Dons 14th Sept 2014 when he’d just turned seven (it was meant to be the week before v Donny on his actual 7th birthday but the game was postponed for international call ups) - we got three late goals to make the score look better than the game actually had gone. He still loved it.

Not sure if we will have st’s next season as he’ll be turning 18 this year and going off to college or whatever. My youngest doesn’t really come much anymore, still has a st but hasn’t justified the £29 this season so far; when it was a tenner it didn’t matter. She came a lot for a couple of years but last season and this it’s rare she wants to, and i won’t force the issue. If the lad moves away and cant do all the games, I won’t have a st to sit in my own so I’ll just pick and choose when he can come.

It certainly did. Don't think we returned there until 1995.

It was the first time I'd ever seen us top of the second division. Which was a bit perplexing as we weren't all that great.

Was the return in 95 immediately prior to being thumped 5-0 at home to Birmingham?
