What do you lads who have been doing it since Jan 17th think? I'm disappointed with it so far. I joined on the recommendation of the Son in Law who has done it and they did gym work before going on the all weather. We just got to run around the car park.
I dont mind it up to press, I quite enjoyed 5 a side, I'll be in a barca shirt on Again mate if you want to come up and say hello
i actually found the car park harsh on my ankles. i wasn't expecting that. i also thought an hour of football was quite a lot, considering it's meant to be a 'starter' programme. it's free and gets you out the house. better than sitting in
Hope to be able to walk again by the middle of next week! Seriously, for a programme aimed at men 35+, I think it needs to be pointed out that if you're much above 36 you'll find it a bit much! Good advice re nutrition, etc though. And a real good bunch of lads running it. But don't make the mistake of thinking you can turn the clock back!
Three of us were locked out of the corner stand after they had told us to leave our kit bags in there. After getting wet through and cold I could have done without having to wait 20 minutes getting freezing cold whilst someone came to unlock to doors in so we could collect our gear. If the office staff hadn't been working late I would have been stuck with no car keys, no money, and no work next morning. With my own coaching head on it was too intense for a starter session and I got the impression it wasn't very well planned. The physical stuff wasn't as well structured as the course my son in law did. Next Thursday I'll save all my energy for the football.
This is really sad for me to read after I was one of the founders of the programme and put a lot of effort into making a successful course over the first 2 years, which im sure a lot of the blokes who went on it this period will testify. It should in theory be better as the they recieved 100k funding for a coordinator post for 3 years, so there is now a dedicated co ordinator in place.however the way it was done has ripped the core out of the project, which in my opinion is one of the key contubutors to it's success. We were aware of fitness levels and time playing football especially in the first few weeks and catered the physical activity accordingly but it looks like this is no longer the case. We had fellas 60+ on before and they wouldnt have made the comments about needing to be 36 so that shows it must have changed for the worse, as it was always about making sure everyone in the group got what they can out of it. Anyway I'll stop typing as ive already been in trouble for airing my views on this, its just hard not to when it was something I had a passion for. You could try telling those who fund it but as a worker I put my concerns across to them and it landed me in hot water!
i do think it needs feeding back. not as a criticism, just as honest feedback. if they don't know, they can't do anything to change it
Hi fellas, many thanks for all your feedback as this will help improve the fit reds programme. As with all projects it is important to flag up issues and concerns so we can address them as the project evolves. it is a particular challenge delivering sessions without designated indoor gym space especially in the winter, but we will investigate alternatives.
I did fit reds 3 and found it to be fantastic. The enthusiasm of the trainers like Carl, Luke etc was one of the reasons this was so successful. It was also a bit of a laugh. I joined this latest fit reds session as I felt I'd lost the momentum that they had given me (not sure wether I was supposed to be able to do it again but hey!). I have to say I was dissapointed with the session in comparison to the first time around. In fact I found little motivation which was a shame and given what Ive heard about the activities I havent bothered continuing this time. One of the problems I found with the scheme was the fact that Im not actually any good at football. I like a kick around but essentially Im crap as I played Rugby mostly at school. The sessions on a thursday night were enjoyable at times but sometimes I felt people took things a bit too seriously. If there was an option to do more of the gym and other exercise to those continuing I think this would be a better scheme. It seems that event the people on the initial 8 weeks aren't getting this any more. A real shame that someone has ruined what was a fantastic scheme for the club. Lets hope the new guys can pull it around.
It's basically a run round the car park then a game of 5 a side. Don't get me wrong, it's ok. Better than nothing. But very basic and the numbers on my intake have dropped a lot at just week 3
I was on it Jan 2012 and for me it was more about the education side of food and fitness than the football. Lost over 3 stone in last year, joined gym and still monitor everything I eat (myfitnesspal.com). Proper kick up the arse as to where my health and lifestyle was heading. Thanks to Carl, Luke and the lads.
What Carl say is 100% i did 1st project and it was great sounds like it's gone down toilet now though shame because it changed my life
Who's will be at the fit reds tonight? It would be good to put a face to some of the names on here, I'll be in the the Barcelona top if anyone wants to say hello,
I hope the guys who run the course don't take this the wrong way,but I am also disappointed with the content. Thought we would have maybe done some gym work instead of running in the pitch dark around the car park!! I think thats why they were so many empty seats last week, but hey ho I will be there again tonight !! ps I was the walking man last week hahahaha
I think people may suffer from expecting too much. I have to admit that I wasn't expecting laps around the car park and was expecting that we'd probably be doing more indoors. I have asked if I can move to another session though purely because wr had the week lost to the snow, I was stuck in London last week and couldn't make it and the wife and kids have all got flu this week. it doesn't seem worth it for three more weeks after this so I'll have to see what they say. I wasn't able expecting owt life-changing though which I get the impression from others that they were.
Basically said as much last night, there's nothing else they could do. I don't think I'll be back. There's plenty of roads out there to run on, and if I wanted to play 5 a side I'd have signed up for it. It's kickstarted me back at gym though, so I suppose it's worked.
Reading so many positive comments about previous Fit Reds courses I was disappointed that my lack of a Barnsley postcode prevented me from joining this time. But having read this thread, particularly orsenkaht's comments, and being considerably over 36, I'm relieved. I've bought a bike instead - just waiting for the weather now.
