I've created a set of RSS feeds for the fixtures using a HTML scraping script. The URL list is below.</p> It gives you an alternative to fixtures wallpaper by using a desktop RSS reader widget instead. This offers the following advantages:</p> 1. Use any pic you want for wallpaper without having to use one of the pre-made fixtures wallpapers or making your own. And if you decide to change wallpaper mid season it </p> 2. You can choose how big a reader to use - ie a small RSS reader will display the current month's fixtures, whereas a bigger one (such as the Yahoo multi-rss reader ) can be configured to display the entire season's fixtures as long as your display's vertical resolution is greater than 1000px</p> 3. Since it is generated by scraping the source code of the official website, if the fixtures change (eg TV, or new fixtures in cups etc) it automatically updates itself. Also (hopefully, I can't test it yet) when games have been played it will show the result. </p> </p> URL's for the feeds here if anyone wants them </p> "August", "http://feed43.com/7228721421333813.xml" "September", "http://feed43.com/8882483141005648.xml" "October", "http://feed43.com/5375441308217702.xml" "November", "http://feed43.com/0383568631138724.xml" "December", "http://feed43.com/0242660716852747.xml" "January", "http://feed43.com/7313242383635485.xml" "February", "http://feed43.com/0003151487655611.xml" "March", "http://feed43.com/3734827230254674.xml" "April", "http://feed43.com/4100708403020325.xml" "May", "http://feed43.com/4007151007484542.xml" </p> Just make sure you set your reader only to update every 6 hours or so (or only when the PC starts up) as the free server I'm using will block IP's that request the feeds too frequently. </p>
The result bit didn't work. I reckon I've fixed it though. If anyone is using these and hasn't got a score after the QPR game, refresh your reader and it should now work.
Caution, large image attached. Here's my desktop. The fixtures are not part of the wallpaper picture itself - each month's window is an RSS news reader and is superimposed on the desktop. The RSS feeds in the original post read fixtures and results from the official site so it automatically updates at each startup with results, kick off changes and additional cup fixtures. As you can see, the first fixture now shows a 2-1 loss. [img=http://nickspage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Screenshot.png]
And for Outlook OK. I don't have outlook on my PC so I can't test this but I've collated the data from the feeds into CSV format so try this: RIGHT-CLICK HERE 1. Download the fixtures from the link above. 2. Choose 'Save Target As' and save the file to your desktop. When the download is complete click 'close'. 3. From your Outlook 'File' menu, select 'Import and Export'. 4. Click 'Import from another program or file' and click Next. 5. Select 'Comma Separated Values (Windows)' and click Next. 6. Browse to the fixtures.csv file on your desktop and select 'Do not import duplicate items' and click next. 7. Select your 'calendar' as the destination folder and click Next. 8. The next window will have a title that says 'The following actions will be performed:' above an option to 'Import "fixtures.csv" into folder: Calendar.' 9. If they are not selected already, check the box and click on 'Import "fixtures.csv" into folder: Calendar'. Finally click "Finish"
I've tried this revvie p, might be doing summat wrong but I can only get August and September to work, any ideas?
RE: Caution, large image attached. What RSS News reader do you use to get the layout on your desktop? I'm just starting to try and get to grips with RSS. Thanks
It's the miniRSS reader for Screenlets. As you can see from my Taskbar I'm on Linuxn not Windows and I'm pretty sure Screenlets is a Linux-only application. The best one I've found for Windows is the multi-RSS Yahoo widget linked in the original post. But even with the text set to minimum size, you need a minimum vertical resolution of 1024px for it all to fit on the screen. But it looks better than the one I've posted once it's set up.
Sorry mate. No idea As far as I can tell, all the data is formatted identically. So if any of it works, all of it should work. As I said earlier I don't have outlook to test it with. Maybe someone who knows a bit more about CSV could look at the file and see if I've done anything wrong but I can't honestly see what it could be.
RE: HELP! If you're using Yahoo Widget you need to go to preferences, feeds, and change the number of desired feeds and then enter the url for individual months in to the desired RSS feed box. I've also set the headlines to 5
Got it all sorted but the fixtures run off the bottom of the screen. Is there any way to have them in blocks or does it have to run straight down?
