RE: Question is Looks a good prospect from the few games he has played and I like good players But I don't like crap ones - maybe that's just me though
RE: Question is How long do you take to form an opinion of a player? Do you watch him play over a period of games live before forming your opinion? Or do you decide after a six minutes substitute appearance during a televised match before stating"he's crap" like some of the posters on here! Some even decide before they have seen them play and start slaughtering them!
RE: Question is If a player is playing at a level way below our own standard and not doing particularly well, I'll stick my neck out and say they won't be up to it. This Sodje is a striker playing three tiers below us and scored six or seven goals last season. There have been players who have exceled at that level and not been able to cut it higher up i.e Stuart Fleetwood - not even good enough for Cheltenham or Brighton and he scored a lot of goals in the Conference. I could tell Van Homo wouldn't be any good when he went to side foot a dead ball and missed it - twice!! In the first five minutes of his debut!!! Odejayi, I made my mind up a couple of games after Scnuthorpe at home. Sometimes based on their previous clubs, strike rate, number of appearances etc you expect players to be better than they are like Eckersley, Jones, Andranik and sometimes you expect them to be worse than they are like Bogdanovic. Unless they are a completely unknown quantity like Muller was, you can say with a decent amount of confidence how good a player will be.
Strikers and opinions I'd be interest to know who you think is/was the best striker in the Championship last season. Football (and strikers in particular) divides opinion, whether its just goals, all round game, contribution to team, chances created, etc there simply is no consensus. IMHO, I'd say Jason Scotland was the best striker in our league last year. Would he be the best striker for us? Maybe.
See......Jonathan Stead In my opinion was the striker who's all round game was the best I saw last season when he played at Oakwell. His hold up play, skill and workrate esp was second to non. He scored too if i remember rightly. But ...... would his goal ratio be good enough for the Barnsley fans if we heard he'd signed on ??? I just remember leaving that game thinking he was awesome in comparison to anything i'd seen all season.
RE: Strikers and opinions Difficult to say as there are a number of good strikers in the Championship, but I don't think you'd be far wrong with Scotland. He didn't have the pedigree at a particularly high level but showed he had the attributes and had a fantastic strike rate. That's why I think we should have a look at the young lad Griffiths at Livingston. I've posted his name on here a couple of times but no one offered an opinion. These are the top scorers in the Conference last season:- Mangan Forest Green 26 Constable Oxford Utd 23 Morison Stevenage 22 Griffin Salisbury 21 Barnes-Homer Kidderminster 20 Midson Histon 20 Pearson Burton Albion 18 Little Altrincham 16 Richards Kidderminster 16 Brodie York 15 Harrad Burton Albion 15 Louis Wrexham 15 Seddon Kettering 15 Sills Torquay 14 Cook Crawley Town 13 I wonder how many of these players have a league pedigree (even at lower level) and how many would cut it if they were given a chance? Morison from Stevenage has gone to Milwall so it will be interesting to see how he does next year.
RE: Agreed. He was very good. Then again, that's the quality that 20 grand a week gets you and we can't afford that
