''After dragging us out of the lower reaches of Conference North the following season we gained promotion. In our first season in Conference National we gained a Play Off position, and the following season lifted the Championship and promotion to the Football League. So in no way has MM been an unsucessful manager, just the opposite, and he has carved himself a very impressive CV. What has gone against him however, has been his sterile, negative style of play with one man up front, against many teams inferior to us and his blank refusal to change tactics, as though he had some kind of fear factor, there was no place in his squad for wingers, and he seemed to have difficulty in reading a game, when things were'nt working he had no plan "B" and the subs he used were always like for like.'' ''For what it's worth, I reckon it's the right decision. Will make the effort to join the Cod Army at Gillingham and Oxford now. Wouldn't waste my hard earned to watch Mellon's negative tactics. Hope you all get behind the new manager. You have a gem of Chairman there you know. Brave decision and promotion a possibility now.'' ''mm has done great for the Town and thank you,but the way we turned to a 451 has been a total mare and mistake not looked a good attacking side for many a week'' A lot of these comments show a great resemblance to how we have changed in our approach from this season to last. -Sterile, negative, stubborn, FEAR of other teams, no plan B, no place for wingers ( Mellis & Dawson on wings), like for like substitutions and also the change of successful tactics! With Mellon being a 'natural manager' and Flicker being a 'natural number 2', was Flicker highly influenced by Mellon this season? The tactics we displayed last year resembled Flicker as a person, something he said his football teams would always do. -High energy, positive, quick tempo, pressing, in your face. I also remember Martin Scott before the season started stating that MM was more the manager. Im not trying to start a conspiracy here but did Mellon have a lot to do with the change in how Flicker was setting our team up? Just for the record, before stumbling across these comments I was all for Mellon taking over, however now I'm not so sure. The next 2 performances and team selections will tell us a lot I guess.
Sounds like us this season. Like you say, too much of a coincidence - has Flicker got sacked for playing to Mellon's suggestions ? Dunno like, just asking.
Just wasting time and opportunity to stay up imho, shoulda got rid wy flicker and co, new brush and all that! Get warnock in for me!
