European tour dates have today been announced. Unfortunately the closest venue they play is Manchester, and at £125 a ticket I can't really justify paying that amount to go to a concert, plus petrol for getting there and back etc.

    Really disappointed.

That's outrageous. Gig tickets seem to have outstripped inflation as badly as footy tickets if not worse. I remember my first gig in 1994 was Blur, Pulp and Supergrass and I think it was 12 quid which was very expensive at the time, anything over a tenner was. I think the Manics were about £6 the year after.

That's not including booking fees by the way.
    Disgusting prices.

Tried getting tickets for The Who last week (approx £80 plus booking fee so not too bad) but they'd sold out yet on the same day they went on sale the same tickers are appearing on ticket sites like 'Getmein' for over twice the face value. Genuine fans shat on again.

Have you tried some of the ticket exchange sites which only allow people to exchange or buy and sell at face value? toutless.com was good for getting rid of unwanted Euro 2012 tickets, and they have gig tickets on there as well. They are really strict about touting. Might be a long shot, but worth a try. By the way, it's indicative of how stupidly such things are priced that you consider £80 as "not too bad"!!! Makes my last stadium gig - £45 for R.E.M. - look like pocket money!

I'll give them a go, like you say its a long shot but worth a go all the same. Totally agree about ticket prices by the way, my comment about the price being not too bad was in comparison to the price being quoted for Fleetwood Mac tickets.
I'm gutted about The Who as its a Qaudrophenia tour so the music will be amazing. I've seen them live four times and they are a brilliant live band.

Saw a scanned in poster recently of the first Reading festival i went to in 1980 and the ticket price was £12.50!

One of first gigs I went to was Iron Maiden in the same year and that was £2.50

Exactly, the prices are all relative. It will be interesting to see when people say enough is enough, as they seem to be starting to do with the football.

Never seen The Who live. I'm a bit too young to have been a massive fan, but have seen plenty of recordings of various gigs from the 60s to much more recent stuff and they look absolutely electrifying.

No, that wasn't Reading - that was Wakefield Unity hall for £2.50.

although I do recall once there was food being thrown around and a full roast chicken landed near us and someone shouted "who ordered chicken?"

They certainly know how to rip the punters off. They were never that good in any case.

I once paid 35p to see Def Leopard at the Reform in Wombwell.

I paid 75p to see AC/DC at lancaster Uni November 1976,
this year its 85 and 57 to see Neil Young and Brooce,
125 is over the top for a stadium gig, unreserved seating or standing, having to queue for hours if you want to get a decent place.....

    Did you go too?

Suzi was certainly a beauty to behold for this particular teenager.
