He mentions wanting to win so he can look at the table and reflect etc.... Thought he never looked at the table? I look at it a lot. It's grim viewing, Dave. I'd stick to not looking at it, pal. Or, if you're tempted, maybes turn it upside down.
I think he made a worse one than that. Talked about RNL possibly going out on loan, and then went on to say that clubs want players who are performing for the u21 s. The inference,(unless I've misread it) was that we might struggle to get him out because he's not performing. If that's the case, flicker needs to keep it in house.
The same Reuben who is yet to have a bad game under Flitcroft? Was key to two of our last three victories (stretching back over seven months). I'm not calling for Flitcroft's head, but if I woke up tomorrow to news of his departure, I'd be more optimistic as a BFC fan. Smell of ******** emanating from Oakwell this last few months.
Keith was a complete ****, though. Don't get me wrong, I agreed with him on various things, pretty much agreed with 90% of his views. But he had a cnutish manner of putting those views over. I didn't mind it myself that much, but can see why others did. And once you're losing games as regular as he was he just looks a lovely person, as well as sounding one. Luckily, Flicker is wiser, and hasn't turned on the fans. But he's not as good a manager. I wish Keith had been given the tools and assurances that Dave has.
Exactly! RNL has good delivery and carries a threat with his shooting boots. In a team (squad?) carrying so little threat, he has to be worth a try at least. If I have to watch another game of Kennedy delivering high balls to O'Grady wide left it might be my last (no criticism of either of those players intended by the way).
I agree Whitey. I'd sooner have him at LWB than Kennedy playing LB. Main problem with RNL is that he is injury prone. I want Flicker to succeed, but his "You're hot; now you're not" with players is very frustrating.
Sick of repeating myself, but I'm not alone in thinking our change from 3-5-2 back to 4-4-2 has had an adverse impact. We're such a predictable side this season. Even more bizarre was Flicker swapping from 3-5-2 after getting our first win of the season using it. Our only other win was undeserved. Boro were robbed that day.
Whitey, that's about exactly how I feel right now. But 2 more defeats and I will be calling for his head I reckon. I think the key reason why there aren't more people calling for his head is because it would be like kicking a puppy because he's such a nice bloke and he's committed to Barnsley. But being a nice bloke doesn't win football games. Being a good tactician would be a start, and that, he ain't.
Whitey with Reuben's confidence been rock bottom at the moment would you trust him with a large percentage of Barnsley at the minute? I certainly wouldn't and that goes a long for most of the younger players.
Their confidence is so low because of their treatment at the hands of the manager who, in the case of reuben, dropped them even after a good performance, in the case of digby, publically slated him, and in the case of others completely overlooked them and brought in players instead of utilising them.
Also agree but whilst the reds fans seen angry about the team then i wouldn't play them. I know theres a problem with the youth players and treatment they have got by managers. It took us longer to get out of the car park yesterday so listened to Flitcroft on way back and had a outburst in the car to my grandad about why it's wrong. Also why Davey Robins Hill and Flitcroft have treated Reuben particularly bad over the last few years. And whilst we are at it why can't a England u19 international get into our squad?
The manager says he's lost footballing intelligence. Days after being picked for England. Summat don't add up...
Digby lost confidence in is body from what i can see thats all. I would play him with maybe dawson rather than perkins in a two. But we've got to play them. I'm looking at Southampton and thinking i wish we had young players in our team. Digby would allow us to open the pitch up. They get close to McCourt he gets the ball and it's over on the other side to feet.
If Reuben's confidence is rock bottom it's because of his manager. So I'd be more worried about trusting him, rather than the supporters who have always got behind Reubs. Like Bobby, Steele, Rose, Clark and Digby, I think Reuben might as well leave on loan. And then come back in January when the new manager is in place. Because, there will be a new manager if things continue as they are. No amount of rebranding will disguise the fact that we are - as others have stated - sleepwalking to relegation. If anybody thinks we're on course to stay up, they must have been watching a different club this season. Because I haven't seen a team that's capable of going on a run of wins. I had hoped after the fluke Boro victory that the run would then come, with these easier fixtures. It hasn't. The fact we're still persisting with the same failing tactics just adds to my worries. Big couple of games coming up. If we get less than 3 points, he has to go. Because I still look at our squad and believe it's good enough for mid table. Thing is, I am sad to say I don't see this manager getting that kind of form out of them. I remember last season, and I will always be grateful to Flicker for being in charge of that turnaround of epic proportions. But I would rather remember him for that, than remember him as the man who took us down meekly the year after.
I can't see any reason why Digby and RNL are being treated so badly by Flicker. RNL in particular always plays well when picked, Flicker even said so himself then promptly dropped him and now wants to ship him out on loan.
Interesting that, because many still think Flicker was the one who managed people and situations (interviews etc) better, yet it's as if they're heading in different directions. Hill has even got Andrew Tutte back on board, in the past he'd have been out on loan at some random nowhere club. And he's a clever fcker with tactics now too - sticking Lancashire in front of two centre halves rather than employ a typical holding midfielder so set-pieces are defended better? Nice. Same with sticking Matty Done at RB to go and win the game. It's like Flicker nine months ago. I just don't get why oi lot are sending out the same side every week - stick to 8 regulars, but other positions and tactics need looking at. Fox & Perkins? Don't get it.
Perkins and Fox would make sense to me if they were the two men sitting behind a playmaker in a five man midfield. As it is, they're offering nothing in terms of creation, they don't shoot/score, and I'd struggle to recall their last assist unless we count Pedersen's stunning volley against Wednesday, which I'm not, because Fox assisted that about as much as Mellis assisted Paddy's wonder goal against Boro. I'd pick this side if all available etc: ------------------------------------Butland---------------------------------- ------------------------------------Hassell----------------------------------- --------------------------M'Voto-----------Cranie--------------------------- Wiseman---------------Mellis-------------Perkins------------Noble-Lazarus -----------------------------------Paddy--------------------------------------- ----------------------------O'Grady---Pedersen------------------------------ Unfortunately, my team includes a couple of players sent to room 101, and too many attacking players. So it's a non-starter. Congrats on the result yesterday. Was hoping to come along to Rotherham for round two but I'm told that it falls on the same day as our away trip to Burnley which is quite local for me and a ground I've not visited since Steve Hayward scored a debut screamer some ten years ago. Plus, I haven't give any abuse to Jason Shackell for a while so I'm due.
