They threw Stones in at the deep end and he's come out a winner Flicker now needs to throw Rosey in from the start to see how he performs. Have either Harewood or Daggers on the bench in case Rosey tires during the match. I havent seen Rosey play this season but I saw him at the end of last season. And I was very very impressed with what I saw. Rosey reminds me a bit of Michael Owen..........looks similar, same height, same build, same complextion, willing to drive at defences, willing to shoot on target, no fear, aggresive, willing to get into the mix. And although Flicker says he dosent want to expose Rosey to the bumps and bangs from opposing central defenders - in my opinion that is exactly what would be in Roseys favour. A light weight nippy forward in the Michael Owen mold is a nightmare for central defenders - hence the reason why Owen when he was in his prime got so many penalties awarded
I just think the championship is a different kettle of fish to what owen was playing in,a lot more physical for starters,I dont want danny kicked six foot up in the air and being injured.I'm not saying he wouldnt be up for it,because no doubt he would, but i think flicker is going the right way about things at the moment, maybe fetch him on a bit earlier like watcher says.
Don't understand this 'oh he's gonna get kicked about' nonsense. First off, football has as near as makes no difference become a non-contact sport anyway. Any serious foul play wouldn't go unpunished so its in the defenders best interest not to go hurting 19 year olds. And also, and I'm sure danny would agree with this, so what if they do! Kick them back! All Danny wants to do is play and preferably start - heard him say it in a lot of interviews. He won't care about the likes of Shackell.
Football is a sport of panseys these days and almost non contact like Basketball. I could understand your point if it was the 1970s still.
I am sure he will have come up against some big defenders in the youth league and in the development team. So i am sure he can handle himself! Give him a full 45 mins. You have nowt to lose flicker!
We had this debate last night Nudge, if I may refer you to the other thread. I would say that Rose is being introduced just right, getting some game time, making a positive impact and scoring goals. His pecker's up and he's raring to go, as was the case with JB. Stones has also been gradually introduced over the last 6 months, but I would suggest it is different for a defender and his game is already fairly advanced. The Michael Owen comparison will be made but does he really have Owen's speed to make runs off the last defender? I met Owen at Oakwell in 1998 and he was a pit bull compared to Danny Rose. He also played way to much football when he was young and still growing, which effectively wrote off the second half of his career due to persistent repeat injuries. As we have been telling Hemsworth for the last 18 months, have a little patience.... in the words of Gary Barlow, even.
Agree with you there dek. Also think I would trust people within the proffesional game on how best to bring on young payers than the advice of armchair knowitalls,
So you're demanding that an eighteen year old who you you haven't seen play for nine months should be starting at this time of the season? Good old Nudger. I'll wait and see what the sheep are saying before I make my mind up.
