Good interview, really like Danny Kelly. Flicker talked all way through that as a manager that will be here next year, lots of planning and future references. As long as board change and give him assurances then all will be rosy. Interesting part for me was the pre season planning that should be at 60% already!! Really? 60%? Surprised me that
Yeah and he also finishes off by saying "I don't think I can put myself through that again". This is not a done deal
He does seem to blow hot and cold in all his interviews: - Talks about planning for next season and getting contracts sorted - Says it could be the start of something special But then on the flip side: - Didn't seem happy that he was seen as the last resort for a job that no-one wanted - Says he's not sure he can put himself through that again Come on Dave pal, get a contract signed!
He`s in the driving seat at the moment and just letting the club know that it aint just abart him going straight in and putting pen to paper, he needs assurances and that the club can match his passion for moving the club forward by backing him financially or not selling owt with a price tag that moves.
That's the way I understand it. He clearly wants to stay with us, but as far as the "not sure I want to put myself through this again" bit, it sounds like it's connected with being in a relegation battle again, nothing more. And from what he says about us being well behind in terms of pre-season planning, I would guess that means he wants to get things sorted ASAP.
Why would you be nervous He's wanting to build on what he's started if the club back him and the fans will back him we could be on the brink of a successful few years!
"I don't think I can put myself through that again." Me neither, Flicker. Seven years of hanging on by fingernails is too much. I've been a loyal supporter all my life, having clocked up over 50 years of continuous attendance at Oakwell. My Dad was there before me, and my grandad was in the crowd when we won the Cup. It's in my blood, but enough struggling now. We've been running on empty since we came up. Time for the Board to put up or go. Decent contract for Flicker and a good proportion of what must have been made in the FA Cup run and on sales of Stones and Davies as a war-chest is what's needed.
It's not quite as easy as that though - the board can't "go" unless someone buys us. And that isn't looking on the cards at present. I get Flickers comments, but if we don't have the cash to give him it could unsettle him I just hope we have banked enough of our cup run money, and the money we got for Stones, to give him a decent budget.
Yes, what I meant, I suppose. Geriatric brain at work. Doh! The ideal would be to invite others from the area to join the Board. Last thing we want is a gang of dodgy types on the make. Trouble is, can't think of anybody round here with any dosh. Michael Parkinson, anybody. (Takes cover at this point)
I reckon that will be one of the key things. Flicker won't want the keys to the safe he just wants a chance to build something.
