Last season, Flicker was tremendous as a motivational source of inspiration. He united the club after Hill went and everybody else seemed to be turning us down. He sounded great in interviews, he got the BFC 'family' together, and he achieved something incredible. Completely different situation now though - having put forth his vision, vowed to do things differently, created a new sense of optimism, he's had a pre-season, made signings and it all seems to be going wrong. Would it be plausible to bring in a new manager but keep Flicker at the club to concentrate on the stuff he's good at whilst learning from a proper manager? Cutting your teeth as Keith Hill's number 2 is surely not the best way to learn the ways of being a good championship manager. I think Flicker has got something to offer as a manager, but like a promising player cannot develop to his full potential in a poor team, can a promising manager develop if he's out of his depth? Of course not. I like Flicker, and for now, I would like to see him stay. But if we were to look for a new manager, could a coaching role for Flicker be considered?
Probably not. If we were to change managers I'd like one with experience of this league and the same with his backroom staff, our previous 4 have had none - Ritchie, Davey, Robins & Hill. But regardless of who we bring in at the end of the day were operating on a £6 million wage bill, it's too difficult in this league. You may get the odd team that surprises folk on a low budget but eventually they go down, Donny, Colchester.... or you have Burnley and Blackpool that go the other way but now have large wage bills and funds at their disposal. We need a takeover and some money pumped into the team if we want to move to the next level.
