Been out all day, and just got back in to see this... Whilst I understand why he has been sold, (money talks, nuff said) I am very disappointed that we have let him leave. Fair enough if he were to be palace's no.1 but he has gone their to be a number 2. Of which he could have done that here, and maybe earned a few more appearances and we get more dollers later.... thats now... what 2 in around 7 out since burns too many missed out ons pleased with the ST signing, but I still think we need 3 more at least. Hopefully todays will be the start of a few INS rather than outs. Just sounding of probably unfairly, but AR as done well to weed out the crap, bring in the new etc (or most). Just hope he does know what hes doing, done well so far, just don't **** it up... ANYWAY, whatever, you still have my hard earned sterling, and will continue to receive it. I'll shut up rambling, I am (as this post doesn;t suggest) speechless.
Kiraly wants to leave Palace.. so I wouldn't be sure about Scott being #2. Taylor honestly loves Flinders, spoke to him myself about him, I think he'll start him.
I think Togwell a good signing with potential to become a very good one - in the same mould as Howard, Devaney - good track record with a bit of experience behind him and plenty of promise. I would expect him to fit into the holding midfielder role where he should be a good comlement to Howard - that's presuming a fully-fit squad. He seemed to perform best in midfield with Port Vale on loan. Has the potential to be a Redfearn - box-to-box player with some pace and strength - strong in the tackle, but capable of hitting goals. Flinders - well, we can't really judge unless we know what we got for him. I imagine it will depend on appearances, promotion, international caps at various levels - could end up as a good 'nest egg' for a year or two, I would think. I hope the funds will enable at least two Championship signings and 2/3 squad players. Still need a central defender in the style of Carbon (at his best) and a striker. I think the transfers today make economic sense - quite an unusual thing in football these days, but I do want there to be a club still in 3/4 years time and I don't fancy the 10 point deduction if it went pear-shape.
RE: Kiraly wants to leave Palace.. I got the flinders as number 2 from here... http://www.superpalace.co.uk/coranto/news/EEVkZklFZpYboBeaAt.html I am sounding off, cos we all know how much potential he has, and not to see him in a reds net and really showing his potential is very disappointing. He will now make a name for himself somewhere else. (ie David Hirst Style, but without injury probably)
At the end of the day we are a club who has always relied on the sale of our best players. It's the way we do business.
My feelings on the flinders situation is that we have done the right thing without a shadow of a doubt. We have got some decent money for a kid, who obviuosly has potential, given the fact that he represents england but is yet unproven in any division on a consistent basis. I was personally dreading Colgan not signing and having to throw scott in at the deep end in the Championship. If he had made mistakes in that league, which he will/would do given his age and inexperience clubs may not have decided to take a chance with him. I think we got good deal and with the cash we can hopefully improve the side adequately enough to mount a serious challenge to remain in this division which is of course our ultimate aim. For the record I still would like to see an experienced target man up front, a winger which hopefully McIndoe will provide, a central midfielder and another centre half, and given todays events a keeper as cover for Colgan. Good Luck lads and lets all get behind em this season 'cos they will need us more than ever
Exactly. How many players have been the next Schmeichel/Tony Adams/Bergkamp or whoever, and then disappeared off the radar? I hope that doesn't happen to Flinders. He's one of ours, and I wish him all the best. We can't lose from this deal, really. If he fulfills his potential, we get a million quid, with the advantage of having some of that now, to strengthen the squad for what's going to be a tough old season. If he doesn't, then we've still a decent wedge for someone who didn't make it. (Besides, I think Peter Taylor is an absolutely crap manager. Lovely bloke, but a crap manager.)
