    I know its a reply to myself, but the govn spent £30,000 just on improvements toa search engine on the gov site, yet they send only 20k to over 200 house holds that got totally flooded out.. its a fekin scandal.the gov should be ashamed of themselfs.

    Sorry mate but the householders should have had insurance. Why should the tax payers foot the bill! My neighbours house caught fire and my house was gutted, I didn't get a penny from anyone other than the insurance company. If the householders have chosen not to take out insurance then thats their choice.

    That's not the full amount, it is the first payment, and it's to assist councils in the clean up operation rather than for individual households.

    I agree that the money shouldn't be going towards replacing tellies and stereos and such like but regards getting the houses dried out, getting folk back on their feet and helping with the costs of temporary accommodation I don't have a problem with it.

    What the government should be doing (and are doing, with credit to them) is leaning on the insurance companies with a view to them getting their fingers out…
