I've had mine on pre-order from them for a few weeks now. Great price for an awesome game eh.

The release date has been confirmed by SI as 19/10/07. It wont be later than that. Knowing certain companies, they will get them out before release date. Although it wont be much good to me because I will probably wait until the patch has been released on official launch day.

Thats a bit unfair mate. I think overall they do a very good job. Especially when the researcher isn't getting paid.

    I'm not judging

just pointing out that they ydo occasionally get some wrong, like I said my mate reckons Mattis performs better than Howard, and with all due respect to all concerned that's not quite right.

My reply wasn't at you mate. And believe me, I do know what you are saying. I just think that SI get a lot of stick for minor things, but not much praise for the millions of things they get right. Im a regular on their forums, and I don't know if you go on there, but there are some real baffoons on there.

A few people have posted messages to the guy who does the Barnsley updates / data, including myself, and after the patch, I would expect most things to be right. The Howard situation that he needs to be better is one of the things. Another that i've mentioned is Bruma / Van Homoet. And also to make Foster a D RC instead of just D C.

Once the game has been sent to the distributer, there can be lots of bugs that pop up. Obviously by this point it's too late to intercept. So they release a patch with all the known errors rectified. And certain data too. I would expect the patch to make Brian Howard better than he is in the demo. Thats just one instance, there will be hundreds of others.

    Pre-ordering games

I've never pre ordered games off the internet before but I am very tempted to pre order FM 2008 and the new Pro Evo.

When games are pre-ordered, off play.com for example, do they usually get the game on your doorstep on the release date or is it 2 or 3 days after

    Usually

a day or two before mate, it will defiantly be on your doorstep by the day it is released.

    Another convertee ;-)

I have ordered FM (and when it used to be CM) from Play for the last 6 years. Twice I have had it on day of release, twice had it the day before release, once the day after release (i think - although I could be wrong). And last year there was a problem. Not Play's fault though I must add. The game was due to launch on the Friday, as usual. But certain retailers online were throwing them out well early (from monday). So SI decided to officially bring the release day forward to Wednesday. This was the day that Play decided to ship out, but it takes at least 2 days to arrive from them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them though mate. Although this year they are cheaper at Blah DVD. - £17.99 is a steal for this game.

Also at Shopto PES2008 is only £29.99 as a pre-order. And they are quite sure-fire to get the game to you day before release AT WORST.

What's wrong with "Pre-order"? I know it's not technically correct, but it's the recognised saying. And it's also shorter than "placing an order for a pre-release"

Because an order is a request to be supplied with something, there's nothing happening before that for a "pre", a pre-release order perhaps. It's a pet hate of mine is the over usage of the "pre" prefix, in instances where it adds nothing to the meaning. Pre-book is worse, because you book something before the event, how can it be pre-booked?! Are you somehow booking it before you book it?

There was another on the radio a while ago that was even more bizarre, but I've managed to cast it to the back of my mind and can't remember what it was, although I had a very good rant about it at the time!

lol. I have seen your argument before mate, and I do agree. But I don't think just because it is a pet hate of yours, everyone else should have to stop using it. Ok, so you call it "pre-release order" and at a time where txt spk and word / phrase shortening is rife, why not just think to yourself that "pre-order" is simply a short way of typing out in full "pre-release order"?
