Judging by the number of people that had fog lights on this morning it must have been really bad….just strangely adequate visibility around my car then?!

I remember the late John Peel having a go about fog lights. It seems that if you've got them you have to switch them on. He once commented on the number of cars with their fog lights on the M1 one night "when the nearest fog was east of Warsaw".

I've been on motorway when there is no fog or it's just a bit misty and the matrix sign said "Fog" and people have put their fog lights on, they seem unable to think for themselves - look how far in front you can see, if you can see their normal rear lights ok then you don't need fog lights on.

I totally agree. Some people use their rear fog lights for no apparent reason other than as an extra tail light. No consideration for drivers behind them.

Gimps & Fog Lights..my pet hate

If you can see the lights of the car in behind turn the feckers off.

I'ld quite like to distinguish your brake lights when you brake.

RE: Gimps & Fog Lights..my pet hate

And front fog lights on at same time as main headlights - errr why? The idea is that in thick fog your main headlights just get reflected back and dazzle so you turn those off and put front fog lights on that are directed lower down onto the road thereby enabling you to see the road better.

    Didn't know that

But I never do , anyway . Driving down the country lanes between Stocksbridge and Dodworth , through the fog at 6 o'clock this morning , was a bit of a task . Next time , I'm going to try the by pass and M1 , it can't be any worse .

    Did you

know that people actually drive faster in fog than they would normally.[IMG]

    Its a natural reaction aparently.

I'm like spartacus, as soon as I see headlights in my rear view, my fog lights go off.

Some people leave them on in traffic jams, nowt worse than stuck in a jam with red lights beaming into your eyes.[IMG]

Thats why if i'm following someone with rear fogs on when its not foggy, i turn the full beam on and dont turn it off till they realise and turn theirs off, usually works.

    RE: Did you

In that case I just put my headlights on full beam and flash the car in front.....they soon get the idea when they are being dazzled as well.
