... what would be the best hybrid team consisting of player from 96/97 and 80/81 ?

For example Sheriden or McHale, Aylott or Wilkinson ?

I'd go for that team but maybe have Watson and Eaden instead - Joyce was great but Eaden offered more going forward

That would be mine... if I had to drop anyone it would be that 'fancy dan' Glavin... replaced by McHale for his work rate.

I'm going to rip your head off!!!!!!!

    :D:D
One thing's for sure. Dave Watson wouldn't have got away with his walkabout escapades with McCarthy & Evans in the centre of defence!

Wonder what they would have done to Watson after the Ipswich game! Lol

Or away at Wolves, or at home to West Ham, as other examples?

They'd have had a very quiet(!) word with him, probably suggesting that they were better at heading and defending than he was at catching crosses.

I can't comment as I was too young to see the 80s team but De Zeeuw must be close, best player I've seen in a reds shirt

I presume that this is the first incarnation of Ian Banks, and not the second which was the one I was "privileged" enough to witness.

It was the Ian Banks from 1980/81, mate

Following the criteria stipulated by Dave's opening post. Ian Banks was a fabulous player for us at that time.

Yes, he was in his first incarnation. I genuinely thought he could have gone on to earn international honours for England. Funny how the wheel turns.

    Hi Andy

De Zeeuw on his own would have been a 'shoe in' but McCarthy and Evans as a pairing were the best I've ever seen for Barnsley

The second incarnation showed flashes of brilliance, he could still pick a pass better than almost any other player I have seen for BFC. However, those who had seen him the first time around said that he was pretty much a sad embarrassment of what he used to be.

If Martin Bullock isn't the first name on the team sheet then it's a joke.

Stewart Barrowclough. Ronnie Glavin. Neil Redfern. Ian Banks.

    John Hendrie. Paul Wilkinson.

How can you forget the feeling of joy and excitement when Bully got hold of the ball on the wing, beat 12 players and put in the perfect cross.
