Been following the case this week, knew about the Rangers debt but not how much.

Hope Rangers, Portmouth and this case is the start of some common sense entering football, but somehow I doubt it.

Rangers "owe" anything up to £49m apparently. But they may "owe" nothing.

My understanding is that they are being investigated retrospectively and its a grey area to say the least. When they used this scheme to pay their players they were exploiting a legal tax loophole. Plenty of clubs used it, the one that springs to mind being Arsenal. They "owed" £60m by all accounts and settled at a figure of around £10m.

They sorted it then? I know about a month ago the new owner was making hot air about administration because of the tax bill. I don't tend to take much notice of Scottish football as it is mostly turd.

There are a lot of clubs using various loopholes to escape paying tax. The parrots ignored their tax bill and they were semantics off getting loved for it.

I really want hmrc to go after a proper house hold name and rip them a new arse hole. West ham will do for me. Be even funnier if arry gets bird.

They owed them a small fortune and it was very touch and go in the high court. Their legal eagle blind sided hmrc rail roading them while they looked into it.
Next thing you know Milan is the owner and the bill is 'satisfied'

No, not sorted yet. They've had the court case (about 2 weeks ago) and the decision is due around February I think.

IF Rangers are found guilty, it'll be an agreed settlement between £5m & £10m imo - just a guess obviously, but that would seem to suit both parties. Rangers would get rid of the spectre of administration and the Revenue would not lose face by at least gaining something in the public purse. If they persued the supposed £49m, Rangers would go through and the Revenue would get nothng so it really is not in their interests. And we all know full well that "Rangers 2012" would be playing debt free the following week - same as Swansea City 1984 & 2002 and Bristol City 1994, their actual trading titles.

Rangers new owner, Craig Whyte, is adament that nothing is owed due to the method of payment being legal at the time. We'll see.

I wonder how many Coop bank mortage holders got their debts "satisfied" at the same time as the Fowls debt was "satisfied".

    Disgrace! Now sign the petition!

I agree that could happen. That's business. All businesses lose money if they sell something to a company that goes down the pan.

My point, and the point of the petition, is why should football clubs be treated differently from other businesses? Also, that's the law. How can a rule be put in place which appears to go against the law of the land?

But is it a case of people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? Where does Barnsley stand in all this concerning administration, was everything sorted? Were our debts paid off or a sum agreed?

Only14 people signed - Doesn't there need to be 500,000 before it's looked at?

I don't know the details of what we did at that time, but if, as I suspect, some local businesses lost out whilst football creditors got paid in full then I agree that was wrong.
