It would be nice we could get 26,000 through the gate too for a near-promotion party. Oh hang on. I see at least one problem there.......
Rather when they come to us we charged full price. We didn't force them to make the match a fiver. I don't think we asked them for a favour so no need to return the favour everytime we are involved in a cheaper game
I'd love it, 23000 fans would be great rather than scraping 9000. Then give every bugger who comes in season ticket leaflets for the next season!!!
If we did the fiver deal, we probably wouldn't extend it to the away fans - like the Forest match a few years ago. Was £5 to get in at the City Ground for home & away fans and in the return fixture at Oakwell it was £5 for home fans and £20+ for the away support. Saying that, it was good to see the club extend the £12.50 offer to the Blackpool fans last month so perhaps the club have learnt!
Fantastic marketing opportunity if you ask me. The only way we have much to lose is if we are dead certs for promotion next April, and can generate a big crowd regardless. If it were me, I'd be speaking to Charlton and say... let's make every Charlton - Barnsley game football for a fiver.... it would be a date on the calendar, and could generate good feeling between two clubs. Yes there may be losses, but if it became established as an event, then it could come with similar sideshows to the Blackpool 125 game, and in the long run could do alot to generate fans of the future. If Barnsley as a town knew how to market itself, there could be a few vistors up from London enjoying an annual day out, in the same way that our fans did down there. And before anyone starts comparing London to Barnsley, let's not pretend that many of our fans were on a cultural excursion on Saturday - it is what it is a day out, at the football.... let's just encourage it.
it was ten pounds at forrest, and same at oakwell and the reason we dint extend it was cos forrest had beenn whipped a few days b4 and the directors said they would treat their fans as an apology, then tried to make out that the oakwell offer had been negotiated by forrest directors as an apology so we told them quite rightly imo to get lost and for their cheek the ten pound offer was withdrawn. hope this helps.
