Before I get criticised again on the. Eg the Wednesday debate. I feel this is another example of creating another thread worth debating. Rather than the excellent Glassworks one updated by Freddie. On a regular basis. Footfall in tarn has been estimated to have increased by 2.5 million up on the previous figure for 23/24. 9+ million. It pleases me no end. Coachloads coming in from outside the Borough on the Increase. What's not to like. And well done to all those involved in the project. In creating a town where people want to come. There are criticisms of the latest developments in the town. But I'm not surprised, as it seems to be bred into some folk. I just hope as with the Glassworks they end up eating their own words. Developements like these don't happen overnight, and inconveniences happen. If the final results are a good as we've already experienced. Praise indeed is warranted.
It's like a ghost town on weekday evenings. I don't know how places can survive on just a couple of days trading. Most pubs don't even open in the week.
It's great. Not surprising that weekdays are quiet, most people haven't got a lot of spare money for midweek socialising.
I’ve often wondered this. I’ve been away on courses with work & been out for food in different towns on weeknights & I always find it hard to believe places can afford to stay open when there’s barely anyone in them until the weekends
Most places are now though. Went out for some drinks in Hull on Wednesday and only Spoons was busy. Everywhere else was dead and nobody around at all. Seen the same with Leeds in recent months. Only place I consistently go to and is quite lively midweek as well as weekends seems to be Birmingham but big city etc. I dare say even London isn’t as busy as it used to be. Barnsley is ace at the moment though. No better pre match drinks when the sun is out.
Work now needs to be done creating a vertical experience - i.e. finding a way to keep afternoon punters into the evening and then bringing others in for night time -so dining, theatre, cinema as a draw.
I'm regularly in Leeds or Manchester for gigs and both seem to be fairly thriving with people out drinking any night of the week.
Both got massive student and uni populations. 100k in Manchester 60k in Leeds. 65k in Sheffield. 9k in Barnsley
