Don't start me on this ! Colgan has been hammered over the last few months - everything he has done has been booed . Did Lucas look any better ? No! To behonest I think he could have done better for the first one as welland his kicking wasn't any better than Colgans but there was not one commentabouthim! N</p>
I wanted him dropped And yes Lucas had a poor game, but how many has Colgan had this season and now he is going to be virtually unchallenged for his place in the team. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and voted for him last season as Player of the Year, but is clear that his performances this season have not been up to scratch. (Not that the defence have helped him.)
Lucas......... should stay in the team and be given a chance. It was a big match to come in with and he didn't do too badly. I don't believe we should be changing the keeper back after little over half a game to judge Lucas on.
RE: Lucas......... He's got concussion though so the chances are he'll be left out this weekend, not sure if it's the case in the Football League but often there is an enforced time that a player must be left out for following concussion.
Well id rather have nick so he wont come charging off his line. everything else about his game is solid including kicking. People were sayin how lucas threw the ball out fast, i soon worked out why, he cant kick straight at all. came charging off his line like a mad man for the second goal. Colgan in goal yesterday and derby only score one in my eyes
We will never know I think Lucas was kicking into the wind first half, but still he didn't look confident with his kicking. The problem I have with a keeper staying on his line is that must then be a good shot stopper, which Colgan is. However that side of his game has let him down recently, hence the calls for him to be dropped. By coming out Lucas was attempting to stop the attack at his earliest opportunity, rather than the last. Obviously with disastrous consequences yesterday.
You've hit the nail on the head about the defence not helping It's a vicous circle. Colgan has not become a bad keeper over night, he's lost confidence in his defence. So he stays on his line a bit more, or he comes for things he shouldn't. Either way he makes mistakes because the defence are struggling to defend against a better class of player. In turn the defence lose confidence in him a bit and do things they wouldn't have done last season. Go to cover things and leave player unmarked, which leaves him having to stop shots from better players who have been given easier chances. Colgan is still a decent keeper. The fact is that the keeper and the defence are a unit and collectively they are stuggling to step up to a high level of play.
Then throw in a keeper who dashes off his line rather recklessly which causes more confusion and its a recipe for disaster. Oh for a happy medium.
