It sounds like there could be a petrol blockade again because of the £1 per litre price.

Dad has phoned from work to tell mum that the lorry drivers have told him to fill up asap.

    Strange wasn't it

Couldn't arrest them before for blockading and preventing people going about their business, yet in the strike miners could be arrested for just driving into Nottinghamshire!

That was for secondary picketing and industrial action

    Which is illegal.

This is peaceful protest. Which is not.

I don't see any of the petrol blockaders throwing concrete blocks into the windscreens of tankers

    That ought to do it.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
If only I lived more than 300 yards from work. Don't think the 'stuck in a traffic jam' excuse will cut it.

People were arrested or turned back simply for driving into Nottingham, before they actually did anything to break the law.

I was under the impression that "obstructing the Queen's highway" was a criminal offence. When they prevented any tankers from travelling that was illegal.

Felt really sorry for the hauliers.

During the last organised protest. Being driven out of business. Were these the same people who were hauling coal around the country, and making a fortune, during the miners strike. Oh yes they'll get my support. :'(

RE: That was for secondary picketing and industrial action

On secondary picketing I believe a police officer is entitled to take action to prevent a criminal offence being commited, where he has reasonable suspicion that an offence is about to take place.

I believe that to be the case - hence further police intervention in later petrol blockades / motorway drive slows, but I might be wrong.

On a side note I'm please to see you acknowledge that the highway is the queens, I had you down for a republican. Good show.

The police would be within their rights then to issue a parking ticket to the peaceful protesters then and I would have no beef with that.

Causing obstruction is illegal as is impersonating a Police officer which is what hundreds of soldiers were ordered to do during the strike.</p>
