and some players were worth 'tens of thousands of pounds'. Was everything really so much cleaner, tidier and smarter?
When did teams start playing on grass? If Forest won the cup it must have been 1958/9 season. They beat Luton Town 2-1. Wolverhampton captained by Billy Wright won the league for the 2nd season on the trot. They won the FA Cup (the only cup in those days) in 1960.
Yep. Listening to Martin Tyler and the rest of the sky mob you’d think football didn’t exist until the Prem started up.
1967 during the first "Summer of Love", but they found misplaced passes too funny and had to interrupt games for munchie breaks.
I loved those old videos of thousands of guys throwing their caps in the air when someone scored. The chance of going home with the correct cap was nil, unless you were watching Barnsley and then the score was nil, so you kept your cap.
Ni mind grass who remembers the days when astroturf was all the rage and being fitted up and down the land ♂️What a time
Makes my urine boil when they wax lyrical about how many premierships certain clubs have won!!! Seem to recall all the football fanzines around that era campaigning against it. How right they were
How we wished for those type of crowds back in the day , crowds were that small you'd have to shout to get the bloke nearest to you to hear you especially if you were stood in the padock and he was on the spion kop You could tell how bad it was when the grounds man would say are you stopping until the end , you'd reply yes and he would quickly give you a large bunch of keys and say here can you lock up then ....mind you crowds that big would have knocked down the back wall in the paddock...imagine the p1.ss pressure that would have hit it at half time...lol
