Why do people dislike sitting down so much? You used to have to pay extra for the privilege! You don't go to the cinema and stand up each time the baddie does something of note. I don't think standing is an instinctive anatomical reaction to getting excited (the Serotonin Erectus Reflex?). Is it just a principles thing whereby people don't like being told what to do? So, go on, what's with all you standing fools?
RE: Why do people dislike sitting down so much? I don't understand it either. Being cramped together like cattle going to slaughter isn't the best way to enjoy a match. Like Colchester the other week, where the away end was so packed out you could barely move. Much prefer sitting down to be honest.
Lack of leg-room? Not comfortable spending 90+minutes with the back edge of a plastic seat pressed against your knees...
i like both sometimes i prefer to sit, if i wanna stand i'll go nr the back cos i usually get an old fossil behind me moaning. last year at west brom, there were people stood infront of me, so we stood up and one of lads got a scutch off t'old fella behind us.
RE: Why do people dislike sitting down so much? Like ICU says, Ijust dont fit in them chairs, my knees dig into the chair infornt and theres hardly any ballak room(sideways spread). I've alwayshad a season ticket at the back for this reason, so I can stand up and not bother anyone behind me.
AlthoughI do think an allocated place is a good idea.
Maybe this thread is worthy of a " sit or stand "POLL

Because of the excitement - the adrenalin rush. Have you ever been to a rock or popconcert where everyone sat down and clapped politely throughout?
If it's good enough for them it should be good enough for us.At least have the option of going to an area where standing is permitted i.e. Stand in your designated seat area.
Also you can stand with whomever you want and walk away from gobshites ruining the match for you.
And in winter it's much better to stand than sit.
I would like a leaning bar like off the old terraces. But I'm old me.

legs off leg room works both ways though.. im not exactly tallest person in world... so everyone standinggenerally means id get some great lumex infront of me... like at colchester the other week... least with seating i do get some kinda view because even when theres steps i cant see
Songs are so much louder when you're standing? I think the atmosphere definitely suffers in all seater stadia. As does the atmosphere in seated sections of arena gigs. I once was given a free ticket to a gig at the M.E.N. in the seats and I felt like the proverbial spare *****. I know all seaters were brought in following the tragic events down the road but I think now is the time to have a rethink on the issue. The new terraces in Germany (above) have both options, you can stand and sing all the way through the game and then take to your seat at half time. Best of both worlds I reckon. You would of course need to designate such sections 'singing sections' to allow like minded people the chance to sit together. After all it's only when a huddle of people are together that songs breakout and new chants are formed. Was it not the away following standing at Burnden Park where "It's Just Like Watching Brazil" first took hold? I remember when the new ponte stand opened and it was free seating which meant that all the lads who arrived at ten to three from the boozer sat down the front creating an unofficial singing section. We need these singing areas to bring the atmosphere back to football without scaring away those that all seater stadia has attracted, a middle ground is required. Singing areas are the way forward. Here's a link to a clip from FC United, and their fans at Bury's Gigg Lane hardly ever sit down. Granted their support is more of a political movement but just watch this and see how the song keeps going even during a near miss. http://youtube.com/watch?v=N3yWyJVQBmU&mode=related&search= Would the singing have continued if people had been sat down? Probably not. I suppose you don't sit down in a church to sing?! So why do we have to at football. Safe standing. Sign the petition.
Yes, you have me there... ...I have to concede the point about walking away from gobshites. I'm also 6'3" and have problems fitting in tightly spaced seats. Blummin' eck... I want to stand! I feel like that bloke off the Fast Show who changes his argument stance all the time. Having said that, anyone who stands up blocking someone's view deserves a "skutch rarnd 'ead". It's only fair.
I am all for standing areas, they create a better atmosphere. The new German ground looks like the answer to me.
Same here. Used to be ace standing in the winter where everyone would keep each other warm - but I much prefer seating. Being a bit of a short-arse it was always difficult to see when standing on the terraces. I like my own little area now.
