we kept ourselves up. There are 46 games in a season, the 3 teams with the least points go down. Its really that simple. We earned sufficient points to not be in the bottom 3 after 46 games. Therefore we won our place on our own merits. The performances since Flitcroft took over earned that right. I also wish that Peterborough had stayed up, their grit deserved it. But unfortunately they dropped, Tough.
Spot on. Beating Leicester, Watford, Hull, Brighton, etc. at home while picking up points at Crystal Palace, Cardiff, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield kept us up.
do you really want a slap ...WELL??? yes yes yes yes YES... I know I am a Meldrew, but fair dues we won our place in this division on MERIT. I also said Posh deserved it too, and I stand by that too. Last season I thought we did not earn it however, and it was due to Pompey's screw up that we remained. BUT this season we earned the points that kept us up.
Last year Portsmouth had an entire squad they could not afford, which is why they had to move all their players on last Summer. Therefore, the amount of points they picked up was both an inaccurate and unfair accrual prior to the ten point deduction. This contravened Football League rules and they deservedly received their punishment. All the other clubs in the Championship (including Barnsley) worked within those regulations. Had Portsmouth done during the 2011/12 season what they should've done & had to do , then they would not have had the ten points deducted. Nor would they have accumulated exactly the same number of points that would have relegated Barnsley (their points tally in Division 1, by following the regulations and paying what they could afford, shows that).
its a debate that could go on and on. but the thing is we stayed up last season and this season. BOTH times we scratched around in the bottom 6 to 8. I am certainly hoping that will not be the case next season. We need now in this next week to ten days decisions on the ones under contract offer. After that kind of time scale I would tell the undecided to bugger off and look for replacements. Mr Flitcroft needs to know exactly who he has and what he has sooner than later. We do not need any Prima Donna's holding him/us to ransom. We want dedication , its as simple as that.
I'm more than happy To let David Flitcroft get on with his job. He's already proved he's more than capable, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not arrogant enough to think I know how to do it better than him, or offer advice.
Re: I'm more than happy Fully accept the point you're making, Dragon...but I'll always appreciate Palace notching that last gasp winner...
They didn't keep us up, of course, in the manner that Portsmouth did by going into administration. We kept ourselves up. But they didn't stop playing until the end when they could have easily which resulted in Pboro not getting the points they needed. And thus they deserve our respect and appreciation
You could argue that Derby kept us up by beating Peterborough the week before, the fact is we kept ourselves up. I have no sympathy with Peterborough and I hope they enjoy the next few years in League One, because if it wasn't them it would be us.
