...that we seem to get on this board fairly often, a couple of interesting articles, which indicate, as suspected, that it is mostly ******. http://www.guardian.co.uk/christmas2006/story/0,,1967367,00.html http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/oliver_burkeman/2006/12/mistletoe_and_whine.html Thin end of the wedge! etc etc.
The latest one I saw was a Daily Mail one about Christmas cards with non-religious scenes on them, as though that is anything new!
I can't ever remember.. ..getting a Christmas card with Jesus on the front of it, even before all this 'political correctness gone mad'. It was always robins/snowy scenes/Santa/reindeers what-have-you. The Mail pretending otherwise is just another reason why I don't read the Mail.
And anyway...Christmas.. as in the birth of Jesus Christ is only celebrated in December because of Pagan festivals that used to be celebrated then..Yuletide? Michealmas?
Tell that to the jobsworth tw at I listened to on radio deedar the other day blithely talking about Winterval and defending his decision to ban a Christmas party for a local children's group - a multi-faith kids group at that.</p> There are some pillocks out there, they may not be many but they do exist.</p>
I guess If I worked in an office full of Hindus and they all sent a Diwali card to each other and ignored me I'd feel left out. Yet if there was only one Hindu in my office and they sent me a Diwali card, I'd think it was a bit random because I don't celibrate Diwali. Can't say I'd be offeneded, I'd just think it was strange. So Dirk does that make you inclusive or strange? I have my suspicions, but ...
RE: I guess I dunno. He brings some strange snap in when it's his New Year. Everyone's sent him a Christmas card like. And he's coming to the work Christmas party. Ooh we're diverse and inclusive. Get us.</p> I think it's cos we're all people and not too bothered about being right on and that.</p>
If anyone brings food They're alright by me ... whatever the occasion. They may even manage to convert me if it's good grub.
RE: If anyone brings food A bit hit & miss - the savouries are spot on. But some of the cakes and that, well, it takes all sorts I suppose.
There are a few 'right-on' berks, true, but not half as many as made out in the Mail, Sun, etc. No-one is banning anyone from celebrating Christmas in general. Not many celebrate it in the actual Christian way anyway - I wonder how many people on this board are off down the church on Chrimbo day.
RE: There are a few 'right-on' berks, true, I shall be going to church on Christmas Day. I also only send Christmas Cards with the Nativity or related subject on them. Robins, Victorian scenes etc. are a no go for me.
RE: There are a few 'right-on' berks, true, Do you have any trouble finding them, or is that a myth too?
We had a complaint from a client for putting Merry Christmas on our newsletter. Muslim lass in our team wanted to ring him and tell him what a tw at he was.
