1st half we were bullied by them and the ref didn't give us anything. We also got dragged into playing kick and rush football like them. It all changed when there was the scamble in the cntre circle which ended when Howard was booked. This seemed to make our players realise they coual and should mix it with them. Once we stood up to them we started to get a grip of the game. 2-0 up falttered us and even though we threw away a 2 goal lead I wasn't too disapointed because, truth be told, we didn't deserve to be in front. 2nd half we started to play some decent stuff and they couldn't cope. Bith their full backs were awful and devanney and JCR murdered them. How devanney and especially Ferenczi missed those chances I'll never know. We deserved the goal and to be honest, looking at the highlights it was never a foul on the keeper for me. The keeper came out to flap (which he did all game) and ran into Nyatanga rather than the other way round. Therefore, for me the ref got it spot on. After our 3rd goal they started to get frustrated and increased their moaning at the ref. With a bit more quality on the ball we could have scored more but we defended brilliantly and in the end didn't need to. I thought they should have had a penalty with the 2nd of the two as 9 times out of 10 they get given. King was pulling Souza's shirt to turn him but if it had been the other way round we'd have gone mental if we didn't get it. MOM for me was Macken who held the ball up really well and released our two wingers. Special mentions also go to JCR, Devanney, Foster, Nyatanga, Howard, Souza and Anderson. Watford are a big, strong, quick and powerfull team but I can't help thinking that with those players they had on that pitch, if they'd tried to play football they would have beaten us. Unfortunately for them they just wanted to play kick and rush. The funniest thing I saw at the game was at half time when the Watford players came out early to play some one touch pass and move warm ups. Why did they bother? It was the only time they put more than two passes together all game. Surely a better routine for them would be for half the team to stand on the edge of one box and the rest on the other and just blast the ball to each other. The referee was crap all game in my opinion. Although he let the game flow much helped he really missed a lot of blatent fouls. They should have had a penalty at the end but then again Henderson should have been sent off for his elbow. Also, although I missed it, it seems King had a pop at Foster which he could have gone for. All in all, an extremely exciting game which we showed we can mix it with the better teams in this league, especially at home. However, on a more downbeat point, although the game was typicall exciting end to end English football, technically it was pretty poor. I'd hate to be a young kid at Watford who is less than 6 ft tall because they aint got a chance of making the team, even if they are superb footballers. Anyway, role on tomorrow when hopefully we can get something at Hillsborough becuase it's beginning to annoy me going every year with great hope and doing nothing. Youuuuuu Reddddddddddssssssss!!!!
Agree With everything you said. Actually, it's pretty much word for word my radio interview from Saturday (You scoundrel)...I should come with a TM sticker. Good stuff.
Good stuff but just for the record...the lad Ainsworth who came on for them near the end wasn't very big but was lightning fast.
