Under Simon Davey we had several. To many. But now we have just one in the current squad 'Ryan Williams' Australian. We have had some good overseas players over the years. I prefer having squad full of home grown players but in terms of value for money we may be wise to scout further a field and add 2-3 overseas players to compliment to current squad. Just a thought...
For the number we've had though, we've not dropped on that many overseas players, who've never played over here before who have been decent. De Zeeuw, Muller, Ferenczi, maybe Bogdanovic. Dennis Souza for a little while, Emil Halfredsson was decent but had played in the PL briefly before (I think). Colace was okay. Suppose no more of a gamble than a Conference player or an u21 from the PL. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Bosancic, Tinkler and Hristov were alright. Lars Leese and Heinz Muller were good, in fact I'm amazed clubs don't go around Germany signing anybody over 6'4 because they all seem to be great goalkeepers.
In probably what was our greatest season we had - de Zueew, Bosansic and Marcelle. Also we made some great additions with experience - Thompson, Wilkinson and Hendrie....it's great we have a young squad and I can see the benefit of having a sell on value however the football that season was the best I ever saw from a Barnsley side.
I can't work out why you think we had too many if we got to our first FA Cup semi for 96 years. Davey's problem was that he had a good pool of talent that he couldn't get the best out of often enough. We should have been in the top half of the Championship instead of battling relegation.
