I would go for 3-5-2 with wing backs. Bree/Williams and Smith can be the wing backs, Mason Nyatanga and Roberts can be the 3 CB's, a new signing (i.e Liam Kelly) or Digby can sit behind Scowen and Hourihane in midfield and Winnall can go upfront with a new target man (i.e Conor Wilkinson). This formation really would suit Bree, Williams, Smith and Holgate. Bristol City used it last season and we used it under Flitcroft when we were winning every week. People seem to be skeptical about any formation that is not 4-4-2 but I'm pretty sure it would probably work if we tried it. Thoughts?
Davey also used it when we stuck the terrific form together when he made all them signings from the middle of nowhere. It all depends how strong our squad is. If we end up having another mid table season and not really competing with the top three of four sides, we will get raped if those top sides are playing wingers. If our squad is strong and we've got wing backs that are top class at this level, it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm not sure Smith would suit that role as a wing back. But if we brought the lad in from Barnet, who by all accounts is an attacking full back, then we could very well see that formation. Williams would be ideal playing in that role too. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
The way to get out of this league is to play fast attractive possssion based football as both MK Dons and Bristol City proved. Lumping it to he big lad will only get you so far.
Aye but look at the players at their disposal. You need a Drogba or similar in the 1 to be anywhere near capable of playing it.
Not enough goals in it, we should try to entertain scoring goals first and foremost, that's what gets bums on seats even if you're not winning, and it'll buy manager a bit of time, but that's not going to happen with Johnson, so it's all about results, if they don't come early doors, and with the way they're recruiting I can't see that happening, that he could be the latest BFC manager not to get 18 months in the hot seat
