Celtic and Scotland legend Jimmy Johnstone has died, aged 61.

The winger was a masterful dribbler and earned the nickname 'Jinky' due to his inimitable style, which tormented many a full back.

His greatest moment came when he lifted the European Cup in 1967 as Celtic became the first British side to win the great trophy, but he was involved in two infamous battles with Racing Club in the World Club Championship soon afterwards.

Indeed, Johnstone picked up a red card in the replay for retaliation after being on the wrong end of some distasteful antics from the South Americans.

Johnstone, who was also dubbed 'The Flying Flea' after one European clash with Nantes, was born in Lanarkshire in 1944 and won 23 caps for Scotland, scoring twice.

It is believed he would have played many more times for his country but for his fear of flying.

After leaving Celtic, he had spells with San Jose Earthquakes, Sheffield United and Dundee.

His sad death comes after a long battle against motor neurone disease
