Surely it can't be right that he can get a penalty and then go banging on the stewards door during the race (red flag) to appeal. Everyone else has to do it after the race

Daft question but how can he bang on his door when he’s driving round an F1 track?

The race was red flagged (temporary stoppage) because of an accident so everyone went back to the pits to wait for 15 minutes or so. Lewis got on a toy scooter and went to complain to the stewards.

He went to see the race steward. Nothing suggests he was banging on the door to appeal as the decision was never going to get changed

What else would he have been going to see them for other than to appeal? Point still stands that it seems a bit daft that during the race he can go and talk to them which may influence them

Well I never knew that could happen. Used to watch a lot of F1 and can’t ever recall that, guessing there’s been a huge crash.

Not really a huge one, just one car that went head first into the safety barrier thing. No injury or anything but made a mess of the squishy barrier that needed rebuilding

I was just saying you made out like he stormed in when nothing suggests he did. He’s so meticulous it’s more likely he was wanting to understand how it happened, why it happened, etc. as he obviously didn’t do it knowing the pit lane was closed.

He couldn’t influence them. The decision wasn’t going to be overturned.

If anyone predicted that podium before the race I’d call you a big liar.

    Incredible stuff.

I can imagine many a driver doing that in those circumstances really. Verstappen, Vettel going back Schumacher, Senna.

Really? You’ve picked 4 very special drivers there and think how many GPs there’s been.

Gasly was 250/1 (not fact checked by myself) before the race, that says it all really.

I think he means drivers that would want to go and speak to the stewards mid race

I ment going up to see stewards. Yes I think a lot would. The thing is its incredibly rare for the pit lane to close, then to have a red flag as the penalty is issued which gave Hamilton the opportunity to go see the Stewards.

Anyway made for a great spectacle.

Apologies, got a bit muddled up.

Agreed, a few drivers would go there given the chance that Lewis had today. And it really was great to watch.

Just to clarify I'm not saying anything against Lewis specifically just the fact that he was allowed to do it. During the race even during red flag it should be a sealed environment

The daftest thing was the Muppets calling themselves marshals who, instead of wheeling the brokend down car five yards back into a safety area chose instead to push it over 100 metres to the pit lane entrance just before LeClerc crashed and brought out the safety car prompting Hamilton who was first to arrive at the scene to pit first. The lights on the left of the track showed PL closed but the pit lights remained green so LH and Mercedes had a point. Shambles all round from the Marshalls. But rules are rules and Merc cocked up calling him in. 10 second stop go was a bit harsh IMO.

Given the circumstances a drive through would have been adequate.
