We've now lost as many games at home as we've won. When we were relegated in 2002 we lost 5 home games. We've already lost 6 so far this season. Considering how utterly appalling our away form is that's a pretty scary stat.
At the beginning of the season (even a month or so ago...) I for one used to look forward to going down to Oakwell, and actually went expecting us to get a positive result. Now, I don't. Even last night, I was nervous before kick off and after that utterly abject first half, I'm beginning to worry. We have some tough games coming up, and matches that we would've been normally happy with a point with may now, not be enough.
Difference is when we got relegated, if i remeber right, we only wn away from home on the final game of the season, and amassed about 7 pints away throughut the season. Well weve got more than that already
RE: Difference is We won 2 and drew six away from home when we were relegated. That's 12 points. So far this season we've won 3 and drawn 2. 11 points.
Looking at the photographs from last night there were an awful lot of Barnsley players in long sleeved shirts. Now in times gone by a cold January evening at Oakwell would not be the most desirable place for a travelling footballer. It seems that maybe it's now not the most desirable place for a home footballer. Even some of our English players were wearing undershirts!! At least they weren't wearing gloves. Keeper apart, I didn't notice one Ipswich player in long sleeves. Is that a sign of the mental toughness we have at Oakwell right now or was it just bloody cold?
I thought it was quite warm to be honest... 6 degrees C when I got back in the car. Warm for January that...
the crumbling home record..... is something that was starting to worry me immensely before last night, even more so now. We now actually have to seriously think about winning quite a few away games, something we're clearly not that adept at doing.
