Other Championship managers did not miss our Birmingham performance, which increasingly looks like a fluke. They are responding, and counteracting our style, probably noting that we can pass all day long but we will not hurt them as long as we don't get the ball into the danger area. It's no coincidence that Brum, who couldn't do this are managed by Lee Clark, who has not managed above League One level prior to this season. We lack movement, which basically comes back to the fact that our players are not good enough to consistently play in the style which Keefy aspires to. I don't know the answer to this, unless it is to play more direct or [with the owner's co-operation] to get in players who can play in Keefy's preferred style. I think we are effectively stuck between these two possibilities, and that nothing will change unless or until the takeover comes about. Ultimately, if this drags on much longer, our luck in regard to avoiding relegation will run out.
We dont have to go direct at all though, just move the ball quicker, by playing passes forwards instead of across the field all the time, no need to lump it long and high, just pass and move, make the ball do the work!!!
I think you have a point, there is a limit to what you can do with some of the players we have, that's a fact. When receiving the ball, too many players turn back inside rather than turning out and passing forward - whether this is a lack of confidence or the fact they know there's no one available I don't know, but there certainly was a lack of movement when we had the ball. Maybe some of the younger players are getting fatigued - Mellis is obviously class, but he didn't do anything when he didnt have the ball, and maybe he needs a rest - but then who's going to fill that role? There isn't anyone.
