Them: At least a division above us in quality, and unfortunately it showed. Their goals were clinical, and that’s what undid us. Fifth in the table, and you can see why – they looked menacing from the off, and they have some players who you would expect in the Championship. Thankfully, we won’t play sides of that calibre most weeks. Like Millwall and (pre-Prem) Huddersfield, Barnsley seem to be one of those clubs who find themselves in League One more often than they should be. Any notion our club has of getting into the Championship will have been reminded today just what level we need to be at. Decent turnout from them, though I hope some of them didn’t turn out in peak caps. Not for the Barnsley stereotype, more that they look like a bunch of hipsters…
Some fair comments there , seems these clubs Womble, Stanley etc have decent knowledgeable and grounded fan base .
Good to hear complimentary comments from opposition fans for a change. Also was chuffed with AFC Wimbledon Manager Wally Downes comments in the Sunday paper. He insists that his team is improving despite the heavy loss to Barnsley viz: " When we are at our best we can compete with any team in this division. We're not going to play Barnsley with their resources every week." Herr Stendel said " I needed a reaction and we scored early". For my part, I was pleased to see Mamadou last the whole game but was a bit disappointed , that once we had built what appeared to be an unassailable lead, he didn't give new signing Jason Green a ten minute cameo. Let's hope we get to see him against Rochdale.! Looks an exciting prospect.
I was a bit disappointed we didnt get to see green either but I understand why we didnt Woodrow was an enforced substitution and I think Williams was a case of he was on a booking and it would be good to get pinillos a bit of game time again. Moore was knackered so the obvious replacemtn was Victor. I think had Woodrow not been injured we would have seen green on for 10 mins for Thiam at the end
There's a piece on the Official AFC Wimbledon Club site regarding Saturday's game. In it, their Manager Wally Downes says that the best team in the league as far as he is concerned is Barnsley. Very good of him to say that.
