Rams chairman of football Adam Pearson has told Lewin Nyatanga to expect competition for places in defence at Derby. The 19-year-old centre half was expected to move to Barnsley at the end of last season after spending almost all of the campaign at Oakwell. But after the Rams final match of the campaign against Reading, Nyatanga said he did not want to play for anyone else but Derby. His agent, Dean Sheehan, then said Nyatanga was ready to fight for a place in Paul Jewell's plans. “The manager decides who comes and goes, not the player's agent,” said Pearson. “If he wants to stay at the club, that's a great start. Will he have competition for places at centre half next season? Undoubtedly.”
The manager decides who comes and goes I like that. The fact that he was happy to loan out a good defender all last season when they were losing almost every match is totally baffling. I had some regard for their manager in the past but not now.
RE: The manager decides who comes and goes Billy Davies got more points last season that Jewell... Says it all really.
I guess this means he will be boo'ed and prolly rascially abused when he comes to the 'Well then thats the mentality of many there nowadays sadly
Erm., no he doesn't. A player under contract can't be made to leave against his will, if the player decides to stay he stays, obviously. Nyatanga knows he has competition for his place at County, and if the player decides to stay and fight for his place he can do so at his own option. Can't see Pearson's point.
