ODEJAYI READY TO HOLD TALKS

09:00 - 19 May 2007

Kayode Odejayi will hold transfer talks with a Coca-Cola Championship club early next week. The 25-year-old Cheltenham Town striker, who netted 15 goals as the Robins stayed in Coca-Cola League One last season, has been the subject of a six-figure bid from the mystery club. The bid has triggered a clause in Odejayi's contract which says it has to be accepted by Cheltenham, and that Odejayi is free to speak to the club involved. Odejayi's agent Darren Long would not name the club involved, but confirmed that the Nigerian-born forward would speak to them - but would also be talking to Robins manager John Ward about his future at Whaddon Road before any decision on a move was made.
"I would prefer not to name the club, but Kay knows about the bid and will be speaking to the club next week," Long said. "But Kayode enjoys playing for Cheltenham and has a lot of respect for the club and especially John Ward. "John wants to speak to Kay before he decides what he wants to do. "Kay feels he owes that to Cheltenham after all the club have done for him, so we will be getting together with John as soon as we can. "It is very early days with this matter and I do not think anything will happen for a while. "They are a close-knit set of lads at Cheltenham and Kay is happy at the club. "This has come as a shock to him, and has come completely out of the blue. "He is still taking it in at the moment." Odejayi has matured as a player in the past 18 months, with 28 goals in the past two seasons, compared with six in his first two seasons at the club. "He attracts a lot of attention, and he has come on leaps and bounds in the past 18 months," said Long. "He is a popular lad at Cheltenham and he has had a good season, but he feels he is capable of a lot more." Manager Ward and chairman Paul Baker have vowed to do all they can to keep Odejayi. Long is also the agent for out-of-contract trio JJ Melligan, Craig Armstrong and Damian Spencer, and he said they were all still in negotiations with the club over new deals. Will Puddy, Gavin Caines, David Bird, Jerry Gill and Adam Connolly are also yet to sign new deals.
maybe cheltenham just need some money and are trying to show he's available, or maybe his agent is playing up or summat. unless we're not signing racjzi i don't see why we'd buy him.
So he has a McIndoe clause then Wonder if he will insert another in his new contract whoever he signs for. I suspect if we are in the running GS might not want another one of those
looks to be a different player to Pete - more likely to be competition for Stan - I reckon Davey will want two players competing for every position.
I like the idea of 2 people competing for every position So we need to sign the following then 1 goalkeeper 1 right back 3 centre halves 1 left back 4 midfielders - (2 creative 2 holding) 2 more strikers (1 if Radjzi signes) going to be a busy summer
