FOOTBALL star Ronnie Wallwork may never play again after his horror stabbing in a night club, his agent said last night.</p>

The former Manchester United midfielder 29, was knifed seven times in the hand,stomach and back.</p>

And the West Bromwich Albion player - on loan at Barnsley - had NINE HOURS of surgery.</p>

Last night his condition was described as &quot;stable&quot;. Agent Neil Sillet said &quot;He is still in a very bad way and he will be in hospital for quite a while.</p>

&quot;We hope the injuries are not career threatening but it is impossible to say&quot;. Cops believe Wallwork was stabbed by a love rival in front of his girlfriend at the Trendy Sugar Lounge Club in Manchester on Thursday.</p>

The attacker fled through a back door, Cops know the identity of the suspect.</p>

STABBED soccer star Ronnie Wallwork was recovering last night after a gruelling nine-hour operation.

The former Manchester United midfielder, 29, had surgery to repair slashed tendons in a hand - but surgeons found the job trickier than expected.

His father Ronald, 70, said: "The operation was only supposed to last four hours but the hand was badly cut.

"We are waiting to see how much feeling he'll get back in his hand.

"We don't know when he'll be playing again -But there is no reason to think he won't."

Wallwork, playing for Barnsley on loan from West Brom, was knifed in the hand, stomach and back at a birthday party in Manchester's trendy Sugar Lounge.


Police are hunting the attacker. They believe he may be a jealous former friend of Wallwork's girlfriend.

I wish the tabloids would leave it alone. His agent didn't say that 'he may never play again' - he has clearly been asked the question and he has replied 'it is impossible to say' which is altogether different. Ronnie's dad has been quoted elsewhere saying 'there is no reason to believe that he won't continue playing' - so why do the News of the World need to make it hysterical and dramatise the situation? To line their pockets? They don't give a **** about Ronnie, his family, the football or the fans. The gutter press is disgustingly cynical. The Barsteward daily mail is still making money out of the Diana car crash. It makes you sick.</p>
