BOLTON have their sights on Barnsley FA Cup hero Brian Howard, who is rated at £4million. Wigan are also keen on the 25-year-old midfielder and the Tykes could be tempted to cash in.
so what if Bri goes we have Anderson and somebody else to fill in but we have all summer to find him i think we should set him a 50 million release clause though ,
If he wants to go you can't stand in his way But we'll be a weaker team next year without him. There's nobody out there as good as Howard that we're likely to sign.
We'd be weaker in Howard's position But not necessarily a weaker team. If we get 3-4 million for Howard as is being rumoured (rightly or wrongly) then we wouldn't spend it all trying to replace Howard. Half a million could net a reasonably capable replacement, leaving plenty to draft in a natural left winger and a proven striker to partner Macken. We'd have to spend the money very unwisely to wind up a weaker team IMO. Then again, Mostto, Cristensen, Odejayi et al do spring to mind...
In my opinion Last season, without Howard, we'd have been relegated in March. Davey is going to have to bring in some real quality if a similar scenario isn't repeated this season. We can't afford to bring in failures like Johnson, Mattis, Christensen, Mostto and Odejayi this time round.
i agree but there would come a point where the money would be too good to turn down. £4million (highly unlikely as this story is) would tip the balance imho.
I would think that any monies generated by the sale of Howard would be given to Simon Davey to invest in the players he needs to make us more competitive.
On top of The monies already made available to him by Mr Cryne. Personally, though, I'd prefer Brian Howard to stay.
Me to, i hope he stays, he is a very good player and i doubt that we will be able to buy a replacement up to his standard. Players like Howard don't come around to a club like ours very often, we should hang on to him for dear life.
With so much interest in Howard we should get more money If two clubs are willing to pay 4 million then why not ask them to up the bid. He is probably worth it anyway. Look at some of the rubbish thats around at stupid prices.
Unfortunately I can see us getting nowhere near this amount for him. At a guess we'd get between £1.5m and £2m judging by the fact he only has 12 months remaining on his contract.
