REDS 'HUNGARY' FOR MORE GOALS AS SECOND INTERNATIONAL STRIKER ARRIVES IN SENSATIONAL DOUBLE SWOOP!!! BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey has pulled off another sensational move into the transfer market by agreeing a deal to sign Hungarian international striker István Ferenczi from Zalaegerszeg ahead of last night's transfer deadline. The 29-year-old hitman has netted two goals in eight international caps for his country and will join the Reds on a permanent basis for a significant six-figure fee. After starting his professional career with hometown club Györ ETO in Hungary and bagging eight goals in 48 games, István had successful spells with Zalaegerszeg and MTK before joining Levski Sofia in 2001. After returning to MTK in 2002, he signed for German side Vfl Osnabruck during the 2003/2004 season before returning to Hungary with Vasas the following year, netting eight times in just 15 top flight matches. Two seasons with Turkish side Caykur Rizespor followed before the 6' 2" striker went back to Hungary with Debrecen and scored five goals in eleven games. He rejoined Zalaegerszeg at the start of the 2005/2006 campaign and made 17 first team appearances, hitting five goals. István has played 217 first team games in four countries and has bagged 77 goals. István made his international debut for Hungary in a friendly against Jordan in March 2001. He featured against Italy in a World Cup qualifier in October 2001 before netting his first international goal in the game with Macedonia a month later. He has also won caps against the Czech Republic, Moldova, Greece, Mexico and scored against Antigua in his last international appearance back in December 2005. All the relevant paperwork was sent to the Football Association prior to midnight last night and the Reds have received confirmation of receipt. Barnsley Football Club are now waiting on the final signed documentation to be returned from the FA this morning.
Istvan says......................from Official site "I AM AN AGGRESSIVE PLAYER WHO LOVES TO SCORE GOALS" - ISTVAN REDS new boy Istvan Ferenczi gave his thoughts after signing for the Reds ahead of yesterday's transfer deadline. The Hungarian international said: "I have signed for two-and-a-half years here and I want to play and score some goals. I want to impress for Barnsley and get some goals here. "It is a nice area and a nice town. The people here have really welcomed me and I have got on well with the players in the squad. This is a big chance for me and I know how many people watch the English Premiership and Championship around Europe. "Everybody wants to play in England and play at the highest level so this is a big chance. I have to keep my feet on the ground, work hard and score some goals for Barnsley. "I have done well in Hungary and have played something like 200 games and managed to get almost 80 goals. I have scored two goals in eight games for my country so I want to bring that to Barnsley. "English football is very aggressive, very fast and the fans and players are fanatical. It is all about fighting out there but that will not be a problem because I am an aggressive player who loves to score goals".
sounds like he might be trying to put himself in the shop window.... ...maybe not a bad thing. Any news on the length of the deal?
