David signed for the Reds last season but has failed to make a single first team appearance during his 18-months with the club. He has been an unused substitute on numerous occasions but has never been called into action although David has turned out for the reserves. The 23-year-old will today sign on loan at Tooting & Mitcham until the end of the season. His current contract at Oakwell expires in the summer although the Reds have inserted a re-call clause into the deal.
Also from Official site A QUARTET of Reds stars will be walking a disciplinary tightrope going into Saturday's FA Cup Third Round clash with Walsall at Oakwell. Chris Shuker, Paul Reid, Neil Austin and Matt Carbon have all clocked up four cautions to date and are just one booking away from suspension. Should any of the four pick up a yellow card against Walsall they will automatically be banned for the trip to Port Vale next weekend. and it's now confirmed about David Scarsella. BARNSLEY goalkeeper David Scarsella has now completed his loan move to non-league side Tooting and Mitcham. The 23-year-old has struggled to make much of an impression at first team level since joining the Reds back in July 2004. He has been a regular in the reserves but has failed to make a single first team appearance for the club. David has today penned a deal keeping him at Tooting and Mitcham on loan until the end of the 2005/2006 campaign, although the Reds have inserted an emergency recall clause into the agreement. His
"a disciplinary tightrope" That sounds exciting - I wonder if they'll have a safety net underneath them, maybe a couple of lions or something like that just to make it a bit more interesting
the story about mersos comments are best either saddlers.co.uk have wrote it twice, rob has wrote it twice or paul merson has got althzimers!
Who in the blue hell writes these stories. It wouldnt be that prat Knob Rowles would it??. Scarsella has made a first team appearance for the reds he played last season as a substitute. It was when flinders picked up an injury during the game and he came on has his replacment and then went on to make a **** up when furlong and kay wnet for the ball and scarcella joined in instead of staying on his line and kay ended up scoring an own goal. Tke prat.
He hasnt made an appearance that was Danny Allcock before you criticise again 3-3 draw and it was Allcock who came on following an injury and he made another **** up crashing into his post from a furlong header for the equaliser

The tough defender made 85 first team appearances in a Barnsley shirt, netting seven goals. He also had a lengthy spell as a coach at the club after hanging up his boots in 1996. <img src ="http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/1/16/0,,10309~2823681,00.jpg"> Mick McCarthy A product of the Reds youth set up, Mick broke into the first team in 1977 and went on to establish himself as one of the greatest Reds players ever. He made 314 first team appearances, netting ten goals along the way before moving to Manchester City in December 1983. Mick enjoyed a fantastic playing career lining up for City, Celtic, Lyon and Millwall. His first taste of management came at the Den and he has subsequently held the reigns with the Republic of Ireland and is currently in charge at Premiership side Sunderland. Mick's achievements in the game both as an international defender and coach with Ireland make him one of Barnsley's greatest football sons.
I wonder which one! If it's the one I think you mean then I suspect he's used to being jeered at lately ff ff ff
Bugger that McCarthy is manager of Sunderland. He should do what's best for them, not us. As a player he was absolutely ******* brilliant. Did you go to the Bradford away game in cup, where Windass was roughing up our defence, unsettleing them to the point where we conceded. That wouldn't have happened if McCarthy was playing. He'd have just killed him.
Correct, he is a legend .... .... born n bred in tarn and did it the hard way, from playing for Worsbrough Bridge Miners Welfare to captaining his (fathers) Country in the Quarter Finals of the 1990 World Cup, fantastic achievement. Great player for Barnsley in one of our best ever teams and a top bloke. If Sunderland sack him I'd love to see him as our Manager one day. A true Barnsley legend
He had the opportunity to help us out compare his view to Neil Warnock: "I want to help out the local sides where I can." maybe my memory aint that good, but dint he jump ship from us soon as he got a better offer? on soccerbase, he's only down as a Celtic player.
Agree entirely Besides the fact that he was such a fantastic player for us, it's so refreshing to see someone on telly speaking in a Barnsley accent who is intelligent, modest and funny. I think he's great, always have. Best memory of him was that header he scored in the 4-1 victory over Brighton in THAT cup run. Don't think I've seen many shots harder than that. Would have broke the 'keepers hand if he'd got to it.
I remember it well......i scored one just like it on Pro Evo last night Well I say me it was actually Adriano for Brazil but you get my drift?
Jump ship Well, he moved on, but I'd be surprised if he hadn't had hundreds of offers before he left. It was at a time when players had very little say in their future. If the board said they were selling him, there was nowt he could do about it. He played for us for years before he left. He was in both promotion sides, plus the greatest team we've ever had that should have gone up to the prem. Part of a defence that kept a clean sheet at the home of the European champions who did play their best team. Best centre half I've ever seen.
