BARNSLEY Football Club have today completed the signing of exciting winger Anthony McParland after the young Scot impressed on trial at Oakwell. The 23-year-old started his career with Scottish Premier League giants Celtic after coming up through the ranks at Parkhead. Born in Rotherglen, Scotland, Anthony joined Celtic as a nine-year-old and spent 13 years with the SPL leaders before leaving during the January transfer window. Highly thought of North of the Border, Anthony represented Scotland at U17 and U18 level and won one cap for the U21s against Ghana in October 2002. Anthony has today penned a contract keeping him at Oakwell until the summer of 2007. The move is subject to the relevant paperwork being approved by the Football League and Football Association. The Club are also awaiting international clearance from the Scottish Football Association. Also: BARNSLEY boss Andy Ritchie has spoken of his delight after swooping to beat of competition from over League One clubs to sign Scottish winger Anthony McParland. Anthony, who was courted by Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City, has today put pen-to-paper on an 18-month contract at Oakwell. A delighted Andy told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "I am very pleased to have signed Anthony today. He has impressed me greatly during his trial and I feel he will be a great addition to our squad. "We have been short of cover in wide positions this season and Anthony brings more competition for a place in the team". And: BARNSLEY new boy Anthony McParland has been handed the number 12 shirt after completing his move to Oakwell earlier this afternoon. The young winger, who has spent his entire career to date with Scottish Premier League side Celtic, has penned an 18-month deal with the Reds.
Is he left or right footed? Because everybody seems to be saying play him on the left, and move devaney across to the right. But I cant see anywhere on the reports that mention which side he plays on.
HA HA Donny wanted him and we got him lets laugh in their faces. Maybe he saw Bele View and their league position and pissed himself with laughter?
Based on what exactly? Every single Scnuthorpe fans opinion that Ive seen of him has been positive. Once you've broken your leg twice, see how quickly you bounce back. He may have been poor a couple of times, but lets wait and see what he's like when he's fit. Devaney and Richards were crap for more games than Kell's played when they were first arrived.
RE: Ode to Ritchie not signing a bad player If thats your opinion of him, fair enough. Judging by what ive seen of him i agree but once he is fully fit i think he will be a quality player judging by Scnuthorpe fans views (who have seen him play loads of times, not just once or twice)
