McIndoe's decision to go - "offer too good to turn down"</p> Right, moving on..................</p>
It was McIndoe talking so his terms I'd imagine. Said Wolves were the team most likely to realise his ambitions of getting into the Scotland national team.</p> He ended by saying Reds fans had good times ahead. Sounded a reasonable bloke, wants to better his career.</p>
Thinking back to when we signed MacIndoe, and listaining to his interview he came across as Barnsley just been a Stop gap until he got a bigger club! The lad had ambition, and cant fault him for that.
RE: at least he didn't slate us like he did yeovil and donny The guy appeared to like the club, even though rumour to be allot of the players didn't like him. One of his main ambitions was to play for Scotland again, he prob didnt see that happening with us.
fair play to him - you can't fault someone for having ambition he's a great player hope he makes it into the scotland team and plays in the premiership onwards and upwards
Given the sh*t that they must have known would hit the fan - why don't they disclose the fee? I'd be very, very surprised if it's much beyond £150k - Wolves aren't flush with money - they're cutting costs! Tell us the fee and if it's really 'too good to refuse' I'll shut up and so will many others I think. Do you think this is another example of spin - "Tell Radio Sheffield it was 'too good to turn down', that'll deflect the criticism".
No the offer to McIndoe was too good to turn down - ie his wages. From the sound of it this was all at McIndoe's bidding.
Dirk - We have to be willing to sell - and we obviously were. I agree with BRF - "Fact is that you need to work hard to keep your star players happy. Treat them like they are star players, give them what they are worth, and make it worth their while to stay. Motivate them. That's management." What do we do if Howard, Kay, etc, etc tell us next week they want to go in January - tell em fine you can go. No! We have to be in charge and make em want to stay!
Depends what's stipulated in their contracts ? ie release clauses etc. I dunno, just guessing.</p> Bigger clubs than Barnsley lose players who really want to go elsewhere.</p>
Fair point. If that's the case though then the contract was badly negotiated in the first place unless of course the fee is massive - but as I said on a previous post I just can't see that. Wolves don't have much money at the minute. McCarthy's working on a tight budget.
"Hi, it's Wolves boss Mick McCarthy here" "Oh hello" "I'd like McIndoe on loan untill January and then on a permenant deal, how much do you want for him?" "Sorry, he's not for sale. Bye" *click*
More likely.. GS: Shep here McIndoe's Agent: Gordon, my lad wants away, I've found him a club GS: He's not going anywhere MA: Well in that case, fine. I'm sure he's got a knock that will keep him out for 6 months GS:You mean he'll hold the club to ransom? MA: GS: What's the deal then?
McIndoe had said his goodbyes to the squad by 9am yesterday before any deal was even agreed. how would you have dealt with that one then? spend the next 4 hours trying to persuade him not to? me too.
The sad fact is.. he wanted out, his agent will have touted him around and one manager has taken him on.
I think it went more like MM - "Ayeup Gord me owd mucker, ars it going up theer lad, tha nos that theer Makindo fella thas got, can we have him at Wolves cause he looks a reight laiker?" GS - "We are an ambitioos club ere tha nos" MM - "Aye but go on, thas booat 4, that'll cost thi" GS - "It's good this here signing players malarky, get a reight buzz art er it, dunno why Rich tea dint wanna do it" MM - "Tha can get a better buzz from letting one go tha nos, gi it a try" GS - "Can tha? Oh reight I'll try that then, who warrit tha wanted" MM - "Makindo" GS - "Which one is he then, cause I'm not really a football man, he ain't one of the good un's is he, cause I wunt wanna get rid o then cause we is ambitious tha nos" MM (crossing fingers) - "errr.....no Gord, he ain't one of ur good uns, I'm trying to do ur a favour and errrr...tak one of ur deadwood off ur 'ands" GS - "Eee lad, thas a good un int tha, alreight then I'll send him darn"
A long game of chess, could've meant that the loan window closed without Macca realising. I for one think that's a very clever tactic. Well done Jay.
